ROKPA IN FIGURESROKPA in figuresProject expenditure by focusROKPA‘s focus in 2020 was adapted to the unforeseen circumstancescreated by the global pandemic. Although Education asin previous years continued to account for the largest share ofproject expenditure at 29%, expenditure decreased compared to2019. This was a result of the strict lockdowns, which particularlyaffected educational institutions such as local schools aswell as ROKPA‘s own education programs. With the outbreak ofthe pandemic, ROKPA immediately initiated an emergency reliefprogram. Food distribution and medical aid were expanded. InNepal, additional food distribution projects were introduced andin Zimbabwe, significantly more people were assisted throughthe medical Drop-In Centers compared to the previous year. In2019, 32% of expenditure was in the areas of Food/Living Costsand Medical Care. InZimbabwe, for example, the need for food and medical supportrose sharply. Thanks to the local project teams, we could quicklyassess where the need was greatest in the medical Drop-InCenters, thereby reaching many people efficiently. Compared to2019, the percentage of project expenditure in 2020 in Zimbabwewas therefore 11% higher. Due to the pandemic, some projects –especially in Nepal – could not be implemented as planned, whichis why the expenditure for these projects is slightly lowercompared to the previous year. Source of fundsIndividual donors and foundations continue to be the mainsources of funds for ROKPA projects, accounting for almost90% of donations. Donations in 2020 were at the same level asthe previous year. ROKPA always strives to keep fundraising andadministrative expenses as low as possible.Voluntary workHoursPeopleIt is only thanks to the commitment of many volunteers that ourprojects can be implemented efficiently.Example: The four volunteers who support project work through photoarchive management or reporting represented the equivalent of 0.4full-time positions. The total work done by volunteers in 2020represented the equivalent of 4.2 full-time positions, while the work ofthe permanent team at the Zurich Headquarters represented theequivalent of 3.7 full-time positions.
