AMBITION<br />
"If anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize<br />
unless he competes according to the rules." 2 Timothy 2:5<br />
After discussing Ideals, it seems right that we should next consider her<br />
sister, Ambition. They are much alike — yet they are very<br />
different. Ideals are mental pictures, which, without the aid of Ambition,<br />
and that stronger characteristic yet, Purpose, would remain upon the walls<br />
of your mind until they faded away with age, and would never change the<br />
course of your life.<br />
But Ambition comes in with eager desire and strives to make these pictures<br />
come true in life. Ambition is the ever seeking that which is just ahead and<br />
out of reach. To her who is following after ambition — there is no stopping,<br />
no lying down, no being quiet; but she must pursue her dreams and force<br />
them to come true. She sees no chance of failure if she strives.<br />
We generally speak of ambition as eager desire for preferment, honor, or<br />
power. She who is ambitious desires the best for herself. She wishes to rise<br />
high, to accomplish things, to be useful, and to be a person of some account<br />
in the world. She abhors stagnation and uselessness.<br />
There are two kinds of ambition:<br />
1. The one is right and just, and a necessity to the growth and development<br />
of any person. Without right ambitions, life must be a failure. This ambition<br />
