THE ROBIE STORY: THE ORIGINAL
CHANGING ROBE
Created in 2007, Robie was the first-ever changing robe.
Our story began in St Ives: a beautiful Cornish harbour town
known for its wild Atlantic coastline and its innovative, artistic
spirit. Like many St. Ives residents before them, surfers Martyn and
Tamsin Tarplee had a vision. They loved the ocean and the lifestyle
that came with it but refused to believe they couldn’t improve the
one bit of the experience they loathed: the brutal ‘exposure’ to the
elements as they changed.
So, like all good creatives, they took to the drawing board. The
combined robe and towel that they designed revolutionised their
lives alongside the water. The Robie was born – and the ‘just about
to jump in’ times and the ‘fresh out the water’ times became the
good times they were always meant to be.
We’re proud to be the original changing robe, but - just like Martyn
and Tamsin back then -we’ve never stopped imagining we can do
better. We’re determined to stay one step ahead of our imitators,
expanding our range and perfecting our designs so that you can
make the most of every precious moment outside, whatever
you’re doing out there.

hold of the feeling it gave you, for longer.
ENDLESSLY IMITATED, NEVER MATCHED
It’s hard to believe that before we created it, the changing robe
didn’t exist. But we well remember the days when an ordinary
beach towel was all we had to protect us (and our dignity) from
the elements as we got into and out of the water.
We found the solution. The Robie was the first-ever combined robe
and towel – and it revolutionised the beach experience and quickly
became a staple piece of kit for water users around the globe.
DESIGNED FOR ADVENTURES
There’s an adventure out there for everyone – and there’s a Robie
designed for yours.
Our designs are highly functional; tried and tested to keep you
cosy and covered up whatever your adventure is - our range
includes a variety of sizes and styles to suit the needs of all water
users. And your Robie won’t let you down out there: we craft all
our products from the highest quality materials, from the 100%
Turkish cotton on our Robie Original to the best recycled shearling
fleece on our Dry-Series.

The natural world is our lifeblood, our passion and our business.
We’re committed to doing everything that we can to protect it. Your
Robie is produced with care and conscience, using responsibly
sourced materials. We make our towelling products from the finest
cotton, and we use recycled materials wherever possible.
And unlike so many things in our throwaway world, the topquality
fabrication makes every Robie highly durable: they’re
made to last a lifetime of pre-swim catch-ups, post-surf
campfires and outdoor adventures.
LANDMARK REACHED
We’re proud to say that all our products containing polyester and
polyamide (Nylon) are made using recycled materials; through
our range.
Our recycled polyester comes from both post-consumer and
post-industrial waste, regenerated into new fibres, comparable
in quality to virgin polyester. We also use recycled polyamide
regenerated from post-industrial waste, collected during spinning
and weaving at our fabric mills.
With a Robie, you can make the most of every precious moment
you get out there - with a clear conscience.

CLOSING THE LOOP ON PLASTICS
Between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean
every year. This doesn’t even account for the mountains of plastic
that are incinerated or sent to landfill. Despite growing public
awareness of the problem, our society’s rate of producing plastic
waste is not relenting, with so much already out there.
That’s why we believe we need to rethink how we view plastic
waste; a material resource, not just pollution.
Plastic, polymer-based fabrics offer durability and high
performance, extending the lifetime of a garment. However,
they are extracted from petroleum, an unsustainable and finite
resource. Producing fabrics made from recycled plastics reduces
our reliance on fossil fuels, requires considerably less energy,
water and reduces air pollution.
GLOBAL RECYCLED STANDARD
Not all recycled plastics are what they seem, so checking for
certifications is vital to ensuring the legitimacy of the material.
The synthetic fabrics we source are GRS certified, an independent
international full product standard, covering the chain of custody
(where the plastic comes from and who deals with it along the
way), as well as social and environmental practices.
Because you can’t tell the difference between recycled plastic
and virgin plastic, it’s important to look for certifications wherever
possible when you purchase.

might throw at you, the Robie Dry-Series is a lifechanging
bit of kit for anyone who enjoys an active,
outdoors lifestyle. (Trust us, once you’ve got one
you won’t know how you did without it.) Whether

an outdoor event or walking the dog, it’s a mobile
shelter against the wind, rain and cold. It comes in
