A word from the Principal...
Welcome,
We are delighted to be back at school after our break and it’s been lovely hearing about all the wonderful
things you got up to over the half term holiday!
I’d like to start by congratulating three of our Y6 children – Logan, Lloyd and Laurie. Over half term,
they organised and completed their own triathlon and raised over £600 for the FLS! This money will
be spent further improving our outdoor spaces. It’s great to see children already thinking of what
they can do to help others and using this motivation to make a difference. Well done!
As we race towards the end of the school year, we are nearing a time when plans for Sports Day and
our Leavers’ Assembly are in full swing. However, until the next round of guidance is released and we
discover if restrictions are due to relax or be removed, we are unable to plan fully for these events.
In an ideal world, we would like to run these events as usual with full parental attendance, but we
will update you on this as and when we know more.
Due to Lockdown 3, we were unable to hold our usual Parents Consultation Day in the Spring term.
We appreciate that this opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher is invaluable and so we will be
offering optional appointments to meet parents later this term. Shortly after we send home end of
year reports, you will have the opportunity to speak with your child’s teacher in person or remotely
to discuss their progress or transition to the next year group. These appointments are completely
optional, but are available for those of you who want to attend.
Have a lovely weekend and hopefully the sunshine that is forecast makes an appearance!
Kind regards,
Mr Adam Anderson
Principal

EYFS
This week we launched our new topic, Superheroes, with a dressing up day.
The children looked brilliant in their outfits and enjoyed sharing who they were
and what their super powers were with the rest of the class. They then had
to solve the mystery of the missing rug and box of dinosaurs. They looked for
clues as well as set up traps to try and catch the ‘baddie’ who had taken them.
At the end of the day they used their super powers to try and make them come
back. Luckily their superpowers worked - the mat and box of dinosaurs magically
reappeared overnight! We look forward to learning more about superheroes
and real life superheroes over the next half term.

It sounds like the children had a wonderful half term with their families especially
as the weather was so nice! Just before half term the children really enjoyed
making a cream tea to share with someone at home. They also worked
extremely hard sketching beautiful pictures of flowers and plants.
The children have had great fun participating and learning about the skills
needed for tennis in our PE sessions.
Our PSHE focus has been all about staying healthy. This week we explored
the hidden sugar content in food and drinks. The children were very surprised
about the amount of sugar in some of our favourite food and drinks!

Class 2 were lucky enough to be able to visit the zoo. The rain held off as we
explored the different animals and the Japanese garden. The lioness had obviously
been missing visitors, as she decided to stroll over to us and demonstrate
her football skills with her extremely tough football. Overall, it was a lovely day
and so nice to be able to get out of the classroom and experience just a little
bit of normality.

Year 3 ended last half term with a Cornish themed day. The children dressed in black,
white and yellow clothes. They watched a reenactment of the St Piran’s day story by
local actors. They made Cornish hevva cake and scones, they created Cornish dragon
eyes from clay, they learnt some Cornish words, had a Cornish pasty and Cornish
cream tea and then played Cornish hurling, Cornish rugby and Cornish tug of war!
The children had a lovely day.

Y4
This week, year 4 took part in their residential. Although we couldn’t experience the
beauty of Eden, or the hussle and bustle of London, we did the thing that would have
been a close 3rd choice for every child on this planet - spend more time at school!
We visited BF adventure and experienced canoeing, rock climbing and team building
over a lake. Before ‘the great Wall climb’, there were lots of budding spiderman wannabes
chomping at-the-bit to showcase their agility and guile from 20 metres in the
air. 2 metres into their ascent, it became obvious that there was more training needed
before the Avengers came calling at Ludgvan.
Canoeing was much more successful than anticipated and the children were surprisingly
good with their hand-eye coordination when it came to paddling (so much so
that Mr Uren is wondering why this isn’t applied to their writing in English).
The evening flew by with lots of playground games and even a game of, ‘hide and
seek in the dark’ around school. How some children can fit into tiny spaces to avoid
being caught, yet take up a whole bed when sleeping, is beyond me.
After a belly full of Dominos and a tired, sweaty group of children, we settled down
for bed. Well, I use the term ‘settled’ very loosely. The next day was our beach trip.
The weather decided it didn’t want to follow what the weather people stated, but we
made the most of it, regardless. We played beach games, paddled in the sea, played
rounders, built sandcastles and also did a beach clean.
PARENTS - I can officially say that your children are great at picking up rubbish so
you now have ammunition when it comes to bedroom-tidying days.
Following our beach trip, we played more games at school before bed time.
Our final day was an energy struggle. Rain, again, delayed our park visit but it was a
lovely activity to round off our adventures.
If I could summarise the camp in 5 words/phrases, it would be:
New experiences - over indulging - hunting - bedtime mayhem - SNORING.
Well done year 4 to a successful camp experience. And a massive thank you to Miss
Rome, Miss Hocking, Miss Basset, Mr Goodchild and Miss Kennedy for your help and
support.

Y5
The final week of last half term saw year 5 putting their knowledge together of
our Cornwall topic to create a short documentary about Cornwall. The children
split into groups which each researched a different aspect of Cornwall such as
Fishing, Farming, Mining and Food etc. They worked hard to plan and write
their scripts and then perform and record their pieces. Hopefully we will be
able to share this with families soon once fully complete. That week also saw
the children having a go at making Cornish pasties. For some this was the first
time making pasties or even tasting one!
Everyone has come back ready to learn after half term and have got stuck into
their learning. So far this week we have started our first training session with
the Cornish Pirates for PE, learnt the South African song ‘Shosholsa’ in Music
and are focusing on measuring angle in maths.

In Class 6, we have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the British Monarchy!
Before half term, the whole class chose the Monarch they were most interested
in and wrote amazing and informative biographies. We learnt all about
the features included in biography writing and every child conducted thorough
research to ensure their writing was factual and accurate. They ‘published’
their pieces as double page spreads including photos or illustrations and they
all looked incredible! We have also enjoyed doing some 3D art. We learnt all
about some famous sculptors and planned our own 3D figures of our chosen
Monarch. On Tuesday, the children constructed their figures, using clay tools to
add texture and detail. We have been so impressed by their clay skills and how
recognisable their Monarchs are. Finally, we had some Year 6 representatives
planting vegetables in our class bed. We are now looking forward to watching
them grow. Well done on such a brilliant first week back after half term Year 6!
