Cricket
The combined Wolfson / St Cross team was highly successful, with victories over
Brasenose, Keble, New College, Merton, and two narrow defeats by Worcester
and St Catherine’s, which placed them second in the Seconds Div 1 league. In the
University League Div 3, the combined Linacre / Wolfson / St Cross team defeated
Lincoln, Corpus, St Anne’s, and drew against Magdalen and St Peter’s, which placed
them third.
There were some commendable performances, especially by our openers Kritarth
Saurabh and Mohsin Javed (Wolfson), who both scored two half-centuries and were
the season’s top scorers. Edward St. John Gillin (St Cross) was the outstanding
bowler, but overall it was a matter of teamwork, with everyone contributing wickets
or runs, and often both.
Our most memorable match was against New College. We won the toss and put
them in to bat. We started well with two early wickets by courtesy of Edward, but
their strong middle-order batsmen took the score to 159 in 25 overs, a respectable
total. But we were confident of scoring on the flat New College pitch, and in the
event their bowling was demolished by Mohsin and Kritarth who scored 64 and 67
not out respectively, and finished the game in style with 163 runs in 20 overs. This
was a great boost to our morale. Incidentally, the Wolfson / St Cross team won six
tosses out of six.
This year we are organizing a one-day unlimited-overs test with BBQ and drinks,
to celebrate a successful season. It is my second year as Captain, a particularly
proud one for me, but I will soon be finishing my course, so we will be electing my
successor.

Entz began the year by introducing new students to Wolfson with a BBQ,
before pitting them against each other in a pub quiz. They were also introduced
to neighbouring MCR bars with an MCR crawl, and then to the long-standing
tradition of themed Bops with a Uniform Bop in the cellar bar. Merriment
