Tam White - Scotland’s national blues treasure 

and “the greatest undiscovered blues talent of 

our time” (Alexis Korner). In a career spanning 

over four decades, Tam’s repertoire is drawn from 

personal experience and his appearances lift, 

move and involve an audience. In his words: “It’s 

just in my nature to perform, man, I have to do it. 

I like the message in the music that I play. Music is

Ric Herrington is CASHBACK, bringing the legend 

to life. Performing all the Cash classics in character 

with the subtle power of the Man in Black.

Sunday Jam with 

Tragic O’Hara and the 

Ayrshire Makars Poetry Group 

Dubbed one of the hardest working unsigned 

musicians on the west coast at the moment - 

Tragic O’Hara has played alongside some big 

names in music such as Tom Hingley (The Inspiral 

Carpets), Roddy Woomble (Idlewild), John 

McCusker, JJ Gilmour and a sellout show with Ricky 

Warwick (The Almighty). Jamming alongside 

Tragic with some “in sync” poetic blasts will be the 

Makars, a group of contemporary Ayrshire poets.

Held monthly, our Friday Night Live is an edgy

Scotland’s only one-man band returns to the hac. 

Prepare to hear a talent who’s not only a singer, 

guitarist and ace blues harpist, he’s his own 

rhythm section too. His show-stopping “mouth

really is just one guy on-stage, but close your eyes 

and you’re confronted with a full band sound.

Benny Gallagher

Kiki Dee and Carmelo Luggeri 

Kiki Dee became a household name with her duets 

with Elton John, and has released many singles 

and albums since. In this evening’s unique acoustic 

guitar based show, Kiki and virtuoso guitarist 

Carmelo Luggeri bring together their original 

music with some of Kiki’s well known songs such 

as ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ and ‘I’ve Got 

The Music in Me’. Covers of songs by people like 

Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel - this mix brings the 

audience to a very intimate and spontaneous 

evening.

This play tells the story of two tribute wannabees, 

Bob and Eric, who meet at an audition. Both are 

only a song away from making their dreams come

Someone... Somewhere 

The play centres round the issues of suicide, 

recovery and bullying. The play aims to inject 

humour and reflection into otherwise sensitive 

subjects by taking a glimpse into the troubled life 

of Dr Simon Philips, a Psychiatrist. A Psychiatrist, a 

nurse, a patient and a hospital manager, all have 

their own problems and they all are struggling to 

cope, who will help who?

Bouncers and Shakers 

Bouncers 

Bursting with imagination and wit and presented 

by just four actors, Bouncers is an outrageous and 

hilarious parody of the disco scene. The four brutish 

bouncers portray over twenty different characters 

as we are invited for a night out on the town. 

The evening’s events are set against the tatty glitzy 

glamour, flashing lights and pulsating beat of the 

night-club scene. 

Shakers 

Every town has its local trendy cocktail bar where 

everyone wants to be seen. The four long-suffering 

waitresses who work there give us a wickedly 

funny glimpse of this world. Rushed off their feet, 

underpaid and overworked, they try to smile and 

help the difficult customers whilst coping with 

their own personal problems.

Exhibitions 

Our ever-changing exhibition programme captures 

both traditional and contemporary arts from local 

and national artists. 

In addition to the hac and North Ayrshire Museum 

exhibition spaces, we are also developing an 

exciting programme of outreach exhibitions in 

Irvine and Kilbirnie libraries. 

Josephine Broekhuizen 

“I like to paint pictures that have some reference to 

the real world but are not of that place”. 

Originally from the Netherlands, Josephine trained 

at the Academy for Visual Arts in Rotterdam and 

Gray’s School in Aberdeen, where she was the First 

Prize winner at the Aberdeen Artists Exhibition. 

Her recent work draws on scenes and still life on 

the Isle of Arran, where she now lives. 

Josephine’s art turns nature on its head making 

skies green, trees blue and water black. Nature is 

therefore seen with a new essence.

Ayrshire Innovators 

In this Homecoming year, which celebrates 

Scotland’s great contributions to the world, this 

exhibition explores the impact of key innovators 

that lived, worked or were born in the area. 

In addition to Robert Burns, these include Sir 

Alexander Fleming, William Murdoch, John Boyd 

Dunlop, Graeme Obree and Edgar Allan Poe.

Two Scottish Printmakers 

Ian McNicol & Gayle Robinson 

Collagraph printmaker, Gayle Robinson, takes 

her inspiration from the colours, architecture, 

landscapes and symbols that influence her on 

her journeys and in her day-to-day life. Her prints 

contain elements which relate to her interest in 

Russian, Egyptian and Italian iconography. 

Ayrshire based artist/printmaker Ian McNicol 

presents a selection of landscape studies alongside 

bold abstract etchings

Dear Mister Burns Exhibition 

Organised by 

Irvine Burns Club 

A chance to see a unique collection of handwritten 

letters of acceptance of honorary membership 

of Irvine Burns Club. From famous Scots such 

as Harry Lauder, Sean Connery, Ian Rankin and 

Winnie Ewing... the letters come from prominent 

individuals around the world from 1829 until the 

present day. It not only underlines the status of 

Burns as an international Scottish icon but also is 

testimony to those Scots who took their culture 

and heritage wherever they settled.

Laughter workshops begin very gently - everyone

Our Arts in Schools Team make the links between arts, heritage, music, drama and cultural education in 

schools throughout North Ayrshire. Working closely with schools, their role is to identify ways to engage, 

inform, challenge, entertain and maximise the contribution of cultural activities to the education of young

Museum ConneXions 

Our Museums ConneXions programme involves 

schools working with North Ayrshire Museum in 

Saltcoats. The focus for 2009 is the forthcoming 

Ayrshire Innovators exhibition which runs from 

October 2009 - January 2010 in North Ayrshire 

Museum. Classes will visit the museum and take 

part in an artist led workshop. For interactive 

information on the exhibition visit www.

Art in a Box 

A range of art resource boxes will be available for 

hire free of charge from January 2010. The boxes 

will be themed, by art form/subject matter and 

will assist teachers and group leaders to deliver 

linked art lessons and activities. The boxes will 

provide equipment, not normally available in 

schools and community settings. Subjects will 

include: papermaking, photography, printmaking, 

textiles, box of dynamite (themed to Nobel 

Dynamite Factory in Ardeer) and box of Burns 

(themed to Robert Burns). 

Nobel Drama 

TAG Theatre is working with Primary Schools in 

the Stevenston area over a 4 week period. Using 

a range of drama strategies they will explore the 

history of the Nobel Works and the impact it had 

on family life in the area. 

World War 2 - 

Live Interpretation 

Primary Schools are invited to North Ayrshire 

Museum, Saltcoats to meet Maggie and Sadie who 

will entertain and inform them of stories about 

their domestic lives during the war years. This 

event will take place in November, is open to all 

primary schools and is free of charge. 

Gaelic Arts 

This project will involve primary schools and the 

secondary school on the Island of Arran. Pupils will 

be introduced to the Gaelic language and culture 

through hands-on workshops in a range of art 

forms, for example visual art, song, storytelling. 

The project will be delivered through ‘A Curriculum 

for Excellence’. 

Museum Handling Loan Kits 

& Talks 

North Ayrshire Museum can provide handling 

kits for schools and community groups. We have 

kits with original and replica objects and backup 

information that relate to World War II, The 1950s 

and The Victorians. The kits are available to book 

free of charge. We can also provide professional and 

knowledgeable speakers on a wealth of subjects.

Why not call into the Harbour Arts Centre, in the picturesque setting of the Irvine Harbourside for a coffee,

Under new management, the stylish and welcoming hacbar is one of the most popular places to visit on 

Irvine’s Harbourside. 

Open from 9.00am, seven days a week, start the day with a delicious, full breakfast or enjoy a light lunch

An Early Dinner menu is served from 5.00pm to 7.00pm and each evening a full a la carte menu with a

About Us 

Cultural Services provide an exciting and diverse range of workshops, performances, exhibitions, festivals 

and events throughout North Ayrshire for the local community and visitors to the area. We manage four 

arts and museum facilities where the majority of our events take place. 

Cultural Services provide more than entertainment. We support and develop activity for all to participate 

in the arts. We work within the community, supporting the work of local organisations, artists and schools 

to provide opportunities to work with professional artists and performing companies. We can also provide 

you with help and advice with arts or culture related queries. 

Everyone is welcome at our events and facilities. 

Education 

Cultural Services work in partnership with all 

educational establishments in North Ayrshire. 

Working closely with schools, our role is to identify 

ways to engage, inform, challenge, entertain and 

maximise the contribution of cultural activities

Festivals Forum 

Cultural Services manages Festivals and Events 

in North Ayrshire - a vibrant and extensive 

programme of special events, festivals, gala days 

and seasonal activities take place throughout the 

area. Through our Festivals Forum, we can provide 

local groups with help and advice when planning 

their local events.

How to Book Your Tickets 

To book tickets for all Cultural Service activities:

In person: Call into one of our venues. 

You can pay by credit card, debit card or cheque, 

made payable to North Ayrshire Council (with a 

valid guarantee card). 

For postal bookings a surcharge of 50p will apply. 

Reservations 

All reservations will be held for a maximum of 

three days and will be released after this period if 

payment has not been made 24 hours prior to the 

performance. 

Refunds 

Tickets cannot be exchanged, or money refunded, 

except in the event of cancellation by Cultural 

Services. 

Concessions 

These apply to full-time students, under 18’s, 

senior citizens, people with disabilities and a 

companion, Young Scot card holders and benefit 

claimants. Proof of eligibility is required. 

Group Booking 

For group bookings we offer one free ticket for 

every 10 purchased. 

Latecomers 

If you arrive once a performance has started you 

may not be admitted. 

Recording 

The use of cameras and recording equipment is 

prohibited without permission from management.
