Sahra Kamara Hanna Shibles, Teacher Mother Caroline Academy Have you ever wanted to do something that means so much to you but you didn’t think you had the courage to do it? Well, it happened to me and I’m going to tell you my story. It all started when the school announced that there was going to be a school talent show. I was in fourth grade, so I wanted to try. Everybody in my class wanted to be in a dance group, but I knew I loved singing. I decided to sing because it’s what I’m passionate about, and I wanted to share it with the school. So, I signed up. Then I went home and I started practicing, but I realized I didn’t have a song. The next day at school I asked some classmates and teachers what song I should sing, but I had no luck. After that, I went to YouTube and searched for songs, and I finally found the perfect one (not from YouTube, but from my head): “No One” by Alicia Keys. It was a great song to sing, so I got to work. A couple of days before the talent show I’d already memorized the song and was ready. We practiced and decorated the gym at the school. Everybody liked my song and I liked it too, and with that the day came. I WAS NERVOUS. I couldn’t stop shivering, my heart was pounding like crazy, but I kept practicing. After a couple of people went, the two hosts called me up and I came onstage feeling super nervous. I walked on stage and all eyes were on me. The cameras were rolling, and students and parents were watching closely as they waited for me to begin. The music started playing, and I took a deep breath and started singing. I felt weightless and calm. After the concert, I felt relief, like the world’s greatest rock had rolled off my shoulders. People were complimenting me on my performance, and it felt stupendous. Before I walked onto the stage I felt worried that my doubts would be realized, but once I started singing, those doubts flew away like songbirds.
