“I spoke up not
knowing the
consequences of
what could happen,
but I did it for my
brother and for
what is right.”
That day was the first time that I noticed that my brother was treated
differently because of the color of his skin. That day I learned what my mom
meant when she said to use my white privilege to help others, and to show
courage even when you may or may not know the consequences. That day I
learned to notice how people who don’t look like me are treated. That day
I learned to never be quiet again and to always speak up and show courage
because Black Lives Matter. Addis’s life matters.
