The Courage of Children: Boston and Beyond XXX

To me, courage is being brave, having the ability to face your fears, and always
believing in yourself during hard times. Courage also means getting other
people to believe in themselves. I was at my cousin’s house visiting them and
I saw my little cousin taking a test. She was sitting at a desk in her room. Her
face was twisted like a wet towel being wrung out. She was squeezing her
hands together, and she was rocking back and forth like a seesaw.
“What is wrong, Anasia?” I asked my cousin.
‘’This test is so hard. I need help,’’ she said angrily.
I knew how she felt. Remote learning is difficult. At the time my class was
finished, so she asked me for help. I told her I couldn’t help and she started
getting frustrated and doubting herself, saying, ‘’I can’t do it!’’
I told her she could do it. “Don’t doubt yourself,” I told her. “You are smart.
Don’t give up.” She said she would try. She started again and read all the
parts and answered them.
An hour later she was finally done. She told me that she got 80%. I was
so happy for her. I told her again,”Don’t give up and doubt yourself.
Always just try.”
I am sure many kids are struggling during Covid because we are not in
school. I know I sometimes struggle with remote learning. We all just need
to remember to work hard in order to succeed. Don’t ever give up. Try
your hardest, and if you don’t succeed right away, learn from your mistake
and try again.
