2021 SJ HK Summit Brochure

As COVID-19 first raged across the globe, focus quickly turned to supply chains, which were strained—and sometimes paralyzed—by closures, raw material deficiencies, and new health and safety measures. One year later, the pandemic continues to reshape consumer expectations and accelerate retail trends, necessitating major overhauls in upstream operations. Join us for Sourcing Journal’s virtual Hong Kong Sourcing Summit as we discuss how apparel is battling back from the impact of the global health crisis while addressing the industry’s many pre-existing conditions. Industry insiders will provide insights on how relationships between both countries and supply chain partners must rebuild post crisis; the ways in which factories need to remake themselves for smaller MOQs, faster turns and more sustainable operations to remain competitive; and how to create resilience to survive the inevitable next threat. The Hong Kong Sourcing Summit is Sourcing Journal’s opportunity to dig deeper into the supply chain, focusing on suppliers’ perspectives on where the industry is headed. Past speakers have included executives from Alibaba, Gap, Brandix, Esquel, Asos, Lever Style, Newtimes, Saitex, Luen Thai, McKinsey & Company, PwC, AlixPartners and Synergies Worldwide.

Sustainability FAQs Workshop
July 2021
With sustainability finally occupying an
equal seat at the table at fashion firms, it’s
more important than ever for supply chain
partners at every level to be educated on
the latest terms, metrics, technology, reporting
and goals. It’s a tall task given the
rate at which climate and environmental
science changes—especially for those
outside sustainability-specific roles. This
workshop will provide a deep dive on today’s
key areas, giving attendees the context
they need to apply these concepts to
their jobs and responsibilities.
Sustainability Quick Wins
Workshop
September 2021
Pivoting the apparel industry from one of
the planet’s top polluters to a responsible
agent of change is a major undertaking,
spanning raw materials through last-mile
logistics. It’s hard to know where to start,
especially given the often resource-intensive
task of instituting climate-friendly
operations. For fashion firms paralyzed by
the scale of the challenge, this workshop
will provide insight into actionable steps
that don’t demand huge time or monetary
investments.
Sourcing Summit New York
October 19, 2021
Join us in person for the New York edition
of our Sourcing Summit, the leading apparel
supply chain event, drawing the C-Suite,
directors and managers from brands,
retailers, factories, agents, compliance
agencies and service providers. This year’s
event will take on even greater urgency as
we pause to assess how well the industry
has adopted the sustainability, efficiency
and collaborative initiatives needed to embrace
the new normal and weather continued
uncertainty.

WELCOME
Seizing Opportunities
Following a year of upheaval and turmoil,
Sourcing Journal is returning to Hong Kong
(virtually) for “Recovery & Reinvention.” This
Summit will feature speakers and panelists with
the task of illuminating the path forward in a
profitable (and sustainable) manner.
Despite the myriad headwinds and obstacles
we all face—from canceled orders to logistics
issues to soaring input costs—I believe this
is an unparalleled moment of opportunity
for those willing to be uncomfortable and
embrace change.
Anyone who has been listening to me these
past 12 months knows one theme I repeatedly
return to is inventory. It’s not a new concern,
but it has become the most crucial factor for
our businesses. The customer wants in 24 hours
what takes 12 months to produce and deliver.
Meanwhile, we all want to be more sustainable
with less inventory and waste, and many have
adjusted their models accordingly. The question
remains, however, if any real lessons have been
learned. Has any real change been implemented,
or did we just do in survival mode what had to
be done, only to revert to our less-disciplined,
short-sighted ways when normalcy returns?
As Andrew Grove, the former CEO of Intel, said
in one of my favorite books “Only the Paranoid
Survive,” “If you’re wrong, you will die. But most
companies don’t die because they are wrong;
most die because they don’t commit themselves.
They fritter away their valuable resources while
attempting to make a decision. The greatest
danger is in standing still.” We must take action.
Toward that end, today’s conversations will
tackle a wide range of concerns, from preparing
for the next black swan event, to navigating the
uncertain waters of trade, to adapting your
supply chain to handle the new normal of smaller
MOQs and tighter delivery timelines.
The focus is on moving forward and seizing
opportunity. There is no alternative. Either
we are moving forward together, or we’re just
‘standing still.’
