introduction information
Dear collegues and friends,
Single-portal laparoscopic surgery (SPLS) represents a new development,
which aims for an (almost) scarless operation. However, working through
one (umbilical) incision introduces distinct ergonomic challenges and
necessitates innovative tools. Thus even experienced surgeons in “conventional”
laparoscopic surgery require training and practise to master the learning
curve.
In pediatric surgery this discussion has just begun and for us it is a great
pleasure to invite you to the first SPLS course at the IRDC. The program is
designed to convey broad information about the basic principles of SPLS,
to discuss various SPLS procedures in children and to provide hands-on
education for ablative and reconstructive manoeuvres. This will be taught
in a dry lab as well as in a POP trainer (pulsating organ perfusion).
A knowledgeable faculty will guarantee highest standard of education.
Holger Till, MD PhD
Head of the Dept. for pediatric surgery
University Hospital of Leipzig
