Material anD Quality<br />
<strong>SIK</strong>-Holz ® playground equipm<strong>en</strong>t is made from<br />
local Robinia wood. It is the hardest European<br />
timber and can be used without chemical<br />
treatm<strong>en</strong>t as it belongs to resistance class 1–2<br />
of EN 350-2. Our Robinia wood is sourced<br />
from sustainably managed forests in Germany.<br />
These are managed as part of natural mixed<br />
cultivation. All wood residue is processed further.<br />
The wood moisture cont<strong>en</strong>t is less than<br />
20 perc<strong>en</strong>t in sawn wood.<br />
We are certified according to the guidelines<br />
of PEFC and FSC ® . This certification<br />
allows us to verify the <strong>en</strong>tire flow of material<br />
in our production chain. Upon request, we<br />
can provide differ<strong>en</strong>t products with a PEFC or<br />
FSC ® certificate.<br />
Not only is the natural shape and<br />
structure of the wood tak<strong>en</strong> into consideration<br />
wh<strong>en</strong> developing our playgrounds, sculptures<br />
and furniture for urban spaces; it also determines<br />
the character and effect of our products.<br />
Our playgrounds are developed manually and<br />
solidly constructed. All wood<strong>en</strong> compon<strong>en</strong>ts<br />
are bevelled and sharp edges and corners are<br />
rounded out. Wood<strong>en</strong> connections (e.g. reinforcem<strong>en</strong>ts,<br />
timber ext<strong>en</strong>sions or crossings) are<br />
designed to be strong and interlocking.<br />
Nets and ropes consist of 4-strand Herkules material<br />
with a steel cable core. All fixings required<br />
for construction such as screws, bolts<br />
and brackets are galvanised. Protruding metal<br />
parts such as screw heads are rounded, nuts<br />
and similar are recessed and secured with<br />
plastic caps. Slides are made of 2.5 mm-thick<br />
full stainless steel. Horizontal bars and monkey<br />
bars are made from stainless steel pipes.
