With restrictions easing across the UK, life is<br />
slowly returning to normal. More relieved<br />
than most are the owners of businesses<br />
that have had to close their doors during the lockdowns,<br />
in particular those businesses in the hospitality, personal<br />
care and non-essential retail sector.<br />
Owners of small businesses like these often exist on next<br />
to nothing in their business’s formative years with the<br />
plan that rewards will follow if the business succeeds.<br />
During the pandemic, many businesses, particularly the<br />
newer ones, were faced with a life-changing ‘stick or<br />
twist’ decision. Some threw in their cards whilst others<br />
are hanging on in the hope that the easing of restrictions<br />
brings a change in fortunes. Your support can help.<br />
Let’s also be patient with our hospitality industry when<br />
it opens up. Ordering perishable supplies when there is<br />
no trading pattern of post-pandemic sales, training new<br />
staff to replace those who left, keeping customers safe by<br />
ensuring social distancing rules are in place, and having<br />
to keep records of everyone who walks through the door<br />
is not an easy task.<br />
Walking into your favourite pub and restaurant and<br />
expecting the quality of food and the ambience to be<br />
perfect from Day 1 post-lockdown is like expecting your<br />
team’s star player to be at peak form on the first day of<br />
pre-season training. To achieve perfection takes time.<br />
