Welcome to Perry<br />
<strong>2021</strong> Perry Chamber of Commerce Chairman<br />
On behalf of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, we are so excited to<br />
invite you to the 32 nd Perry <strong>Dogwood</strong> Festival, April 10 th and 11 th . After a<br />
long year of COVID and numerous event cancellations, we are happy to<br />
be bringing this event back. Due to CDC requirements, our location has<br />
changed for this year’s event but not our enthusiasm.<br />
We invite you to “Meet us at the Midway” at the Georgia National<br />
Fairgrounds & Agricenter. The Midway will be filled with nearly 200 craft<br />
vendors, food vendors, our first ever Farmers Market, and of course the<br />
beloved Ultimate Air Dogs. On Saturday night we will be in Historic<br />
Downtown Perry with a new event called Hops & Chops. Enjoy free Axe<br />
throwing and live music! Be sure to also checkout some of the other<br />
sanctioned events such as the <strong>Dogwood</strong> Derby and the Hot Air Balloon<br />

Scott Cox, Georgia Power External Affairs Area Manager, <strong>2021</strong> Perry Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the<br />
Board. Scott joined Georgia Power 20 years ago. He and his wife Debra are very active in the community.<br />
Official Artist for <strong>2021</strong> — Debbie Grove<br />
Debbie Grove, of DB Grove Art, is proud to have been selected as<br />
this year’s <strong>Dogwood</strong> Festival Artist. She is a 1986 graduate of Mercer<br />
University with a Bachelors Degree in Art. She is a wife and has 2<br />
grown daughters. Debbie has been an artist all of her life, always<br />
drawing and coloring as a child.<br />
Her passion to create led her to teach elementary art before having<br />
children and working as a mural artist while being a stay at home<br />
Mom. She co-owned a small business for several years creating<br />
hand painted home décor items and participating in art shows<br />
around Georgia.<br />
In 2018 Debbie started her own small business called BD Grove Art<br />
where she has become known for her attention to detail in painting<br />
home portraits, pet portraits, floral, and her unique choice of canvases; architectural salvage. Her ability<br />
to give old pieces a second chance as art has become a passion.<br />
From painting on old tin ceiling tiles to old wooden ironing<br />
boards, the possibilities are endless and so much fun!<br />
Debbie is a commissioned artist and enjoys working with her<br />
clients to create a piece of art that is personal and meaningful to<br />
them. Her work is available through her social media accounts on<br />
Facebook and Instagram and she is proud to have her art sold<br />
locally at 7th Street Downtown in Macon, Georgia.<br />
Debbie’s artwork perfectly captures all that is the <strong>Dogwood</strong><br />
Festival; including wonderful arts & crafts vendors, the Ultimate<br />
Air Dogs, beautiful Historic Downtown Perry and of course the<br />
dogwood flower.<br />
Official artwork of <strong>2021</strong>: Prints, posters and t-shirts will feature<br />
the art and can be purchased at the Chamber’s office or during<br />
the Festival.<br />

ADOPT A FUR BABY<br />
“Saving one pet won’t change the world, but for that one pet their world will<br />
change forever.”<br />
Davis Cosey, founder of the nonprofit organization F.O.P.A.S. (Friends of the Perry<br />
Animal Shelter), and director Lynne Gibbs, have been changing abandoned pet’s<br />
worlds for a little over 15 years.<br />
F.O.P.A.S. was first incorporated in October of 2004. The nonprofit organization<br />
takes unclaimed animals from the Perry Animal Shelter and preps them for<br />
adoption. Until about 5 years ago, the organization operated out of Gibbs’ home<br />
along with other volunteers.<br />
“Myself and a friend of mine had our own rescue organization called PAWS (Pets<br />
Are Worth Saving),” Gibbs said. “Well in 2004 our license had expired. I had known<br />
Davis, and he had already created F.O.P.A.S. So I went to him asking if we could<br />
be listed under his license to continue our work-rescuing animals from the Perry<br />
Animal Shelter. After some time had passed by, my friend had to stop due to her<br />
health. But I couldn’t stop rescuing the animals. I am so thankful because then<br />
Davis bought F.O.P.A.S’s first shop in 2016, and here we are today in a new location<br />
because of how much we have grown. I am so grateful to Davis.”<br />
“F.O.P.A.S. would not exist had it not been for Lynne,” Cosey said. “She has such<br />
a big heart for animals, and was spending a lot of her money on food and medical<br />
bills for the animals. So I created F.O.P.A.S to try and help raise the money. I am so<br />
grateful to her and hard work in getting these animals adopted.”<br />
F.O.P.A.S. works directly with the Perry Animal Shelter and Animal Control. The<br />
shelter holds animals for seven days for owner reclaim. Gibbs said at that point<br />
any rescue or person can pull them for adoption. F.O.P.A.S houses those animals<br />
and assumes all care costs to get them prepped for adoption. Business hours are<br />
Tuesday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the organization holds adoption<br />
days at the PetSmart in Warner Robins every month on Saturdays.<br />
Cosey said F.O.P.A.S. also offers to spay and neuter the animals free of charge to<br />
those who can’t afford it. Cosey said they are able to provide that service through<br />
grants the organization has received.<br />
“We work with Westmoreland, Perry Animal Hospital, and Smith Animal Hospital<br />
for our vetting,” Cosey said. “Along<br />
with them there are just so many other<br />
organizations and volunteers to thank<br />
for all of their donations and time<br />
spent at F.O.P.A.S. and we can’t say<br />
thank you enough.”<br />

canceled last year, due to COVID-19, no doubt,<br />
the entire community is excited to see it get<br />
kicked off once again. As always, there’s going<br />
