Louis Vuitton’s tendency to be peripatetic
is not a surprise. However, with its brand
new high jewellery collection, even those
who have a deep understanding of the brand and
its journey thus far have been put to astonishment.
For Louis Vuitton, even sky is not the limit, it can
not only dream of reaching the infinite depths
of the Universe, but also make it a reality with
its creations. Nobody understands the brand’s
need to be inherently limitless than Francesca
Amfitheatrof, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director
for the Jewellery and Watches division. With
her sophomore collection Stellar Times, she has
certainly delivered a home run.
The collection embodies the spirit of the Cosmos
with 90s stellar pieces, redolent with an array
of gemstones – diamonds, emeralds, spinels,
aquamarines, opals, tanzanites and what have you.
The starting point for this collection was the halfcentury
anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
For nearly two years, Amfitheatrof lived and breathed
the Solar System, its vastness, myriad colours and
characters. The collection is provocative, paying
due respect to gemstones in true Louis Vuitton
fashion, with 7 chapters, Lune Bleue, Apogée,
Planète Bleue, Céleste, Astre Rouge, Interstellaire
and Soleils. At the heart of each chapter lies an
inexplicably precious gemstone.
