The Cullinan
Heart Diamond
Brooch
The central stone in this
heart-shaped brooch -
Cullinan V - weighs 18.8
metric carats. The brooch
was originally worn by
Queen Mary as part of the
suite of jewellery made
for the Delhi Durbar in
1911. The Queen inherited
the brooch in 1953. The
centrepiece was cut from
the largest diamond ever
found – the 3,106 carat
Cullinan. It is one of a
number of jewels that
were cut from the Cullinan
diamond, which was three
times larger than any stone
previously discovered when
it was mined in Pretoria in
South Africa in 1905.
The Coronation
Necklace
This magnificent suite of
necklace and earrings was
worn by The Queen for her
coronation in 1953. Originally
made for Queen Victoria, the
necklace and earrings were
also worn at the coronations
(as Queen’s Consort) of Queen
Alexandra in 1902 (without
the earrings), Queen Mary in
1911 and Queen Elizabeth
in 1937. The 22.48 carat
diamond pendant is known as
the Lahore Diamond and was
presented to Queen Victoria in
1851.
The Persian
Turquoise Suite
Created by Garrard, this
set of turquoise jewels
was given by Queen Mary
to the Queen Mother as
a wedding gift. The tiara
includes many symbolic
motifs, including true lover’s
knots, lamps of love, and
triumphal wreaths of laurel.
The set includes a tiara, a
necklace, earrings, and a
brooch.
