Queen Mary’s Art Deco
Emerald Choker
Created from a gift of emeralds from the Ladies
of India in 1911, this choker was created in
the Art Deco style by Garrard in 1921 for Queen
Mary. The Art Deco choker was passed to Queen
Elizabeth. In 1981, the Queen gave the necklace
as a wedding gift, as a lifetime loan, to Lady Diana
Spencer when she married the Prince of Wales. The
most famous appearance of Queen Mary’s Art Deco
Emerald Choker was in 1985, when the Princess
of Wales wore the piece as a bandeau across her
forehead for a dance in Melbourne during a Tour of
Australia.
Burmese Ruby
Necklace and Tiara
Garrard received the
commission in 1973, from
Queen Elizabeth to make a pair of
tiara and necklace from the rubies
she was gifted from the People of
Burma at her wedding. The tiara
was crafted with 96 rubies, and
the people of Burma believed that
rubies, because of their protective
power, could protect the Queen
from 96 illnesses.
Williamson Diamond Brooch
The central stone of this flowershaped
brooch is considered
one of the finest pink diamonds ever
discovered. It was presented to The
Queen as a wedding present in 1947
by the Canadian geologist and royalist,
Dr. John Thorburn Wililamson. The
Queen had the stone cut and set into
this brooch in 1953.
