De Beers Announces
Ambitious 2030 Goals
to Build a Positive
Lasting Impact for
Communities and the
Natural World
in December 2020, De Beers
announced 12 ambitious
sustainability goals for
the coming decade, including
achieving gender parity throughout
its workforce, supporting 10,000
women entrepreneurs in its diamond
producing partner countries and
being carbon neutral within its own
operations by 2030.
The 12 goals are part of De Beers’
Building Forever framework – a
sustainability approach embedded
in the business’s commercial
strategy and focused on maximising
the positive impact of diamonds
on their journey from discovery
to retail. The goals are based
around four pillars: leading ethical
practices across industry; partnering
for thriving communities; protecting
the natural world; and accelerating
equal opportunity.
ALROSA Hong
Kong Limited
became a member
of the Shanghai Diamond
Exchange (SDE) and
received more trading
opportunities in mainland
China. This membership
provides a great advantage
for direct trade in rough
and polished diamonds in
mainland China, as well as
strengthens ties between
ALROSA and SDE as part of
the bilateral industry cooperation. “In 2020, demand for diamond
jewelry in China increased. It is very important for ALROSA to
have business here,” commented Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO
of ALROSA. ALROSA has been present in China since 2005,
while the first long-term agreement with Chinese jewelry retailer
was signed in 2010.
