iyaà nätha krürä bhågu-patanam äkäìkñati tato<br />

asau te durbodhä kåtir iha bhavad-vismåti-pathaà<br />

yato jätaù säkñäd gurur api sa nandéçvara-patiù<br />

iyam-this; natha-O Lord; krura-cruel; bhrgu-from a mountain peak; patanam-falling;<br />

akankasati-desires; tatah-therefore; yat-which; asyam-in which; kathinyam-cruelty;<br />

tava-Your; samucitam-proper; tat-that; bhrgu-of the Bhrgu dynasty; pate-O Lord<br />

(Parasurama, the Lord's warrior incarnation); asau-this; te-Your; durbodha-difficult to<br />

understand; krtih-activity; iha-here; bhavat-of You; vismrti-forgetfulness; patham-path;<br />

yatah-from which; jatah-produced; saksat-directly; guruh-father; api-even; sah-he;<br />

nandisvara-of Våndävana; patih-the king (Nanda Maharaja)<br />

O Paraçuräma, You are right to be hard on this girl that wishes to conquer Your<br />

capitol, but I do not understand why Your guru, Lord Çiva, now walks on the path<br />

of Your forgetfuness.<br />

Note: Skilfully written with many ambiguous words, this verse may also be interpreted<br />

to mean:<br />

"O Kåñëa, You are right to be hard on this girl that wishes to jump from<br />

Govardhana Hill, but I do not understand why Your father, the king of Nandéçvara<br />

Puré, now walks on the path of Your forgetfulness."<br />

niränandä gävaç ciram upasåtä düñaëa-kulaiù<br />

kharäyante sadyo raghu-tilaka govardhana-taöäù<br />

virädhatvaà ghoño vrajati bhavadéya-pravasanäd<br />

idänéà märéca sphuöam iha narénarti paritaù<br />

niränandäù-without happiness; gävaù-cows; ciram-for a long time; upasåtäùappoached;<br />

düñaëa-by many faults; kulaiù-by multitudes; kharäyante-become thin;<br />

sadyaù-at once; raghu-of the Raghu dynasty; tilaka-O decoration; govardhana-of<br />

Govardhana hill; taöäù-on the slopes; virädhatvam-opposition; ghoñaù-tumult; vrajatigoes;<br />

bhavadéya-Your; pravasanät-from the departure; idäném-now; märécaù-the demon<br />

Märéca; sphuöam-clearly; iha-here; paréharti-repeatedly dances; paritaù-everywhere.<br />

O tilaka mark of the Raghus, now that You have left, the cows are tortured by<br />

Düñaëa's friends, Govardhana Hill is haunted by then demon Khara, the land is<br />

conquered by Virädha, and the demon Märéca again and again dances everywhere.<br />
