Dusshera is the festival of Victory of Good over Evil. It is celebrated in different variations in India and all
over world.
On 10 th day of lunar month of Ashvin Lord Rama killed Demon King Ravana.
Goddess Durga with ten hands was created by a very powerful band of lightening from the mouths of Brahma,
Vishnu and Shiva. All Gods gave their special weapons to her. Godess Durga (Shakti or strength) defeated and
or killed demons Shumb, Nishumb and Mahisura.
KARVA CHAUTH will be celebrated on November 2 nd , 2012
Diwali Deepavali Festival of Lights November 13 th 2012
Diwali is celebrated 20 days after Dusshera. It is a new moon night (Amavassya). On this day Lord Rama
returned after 14 years of exile along with his wife Sita and brother Laxman to Ayodhya in the evening. On
this day people of Ayodhya lit up lamps all over to celebrate arrival of Lord Rama in the evening..

Construction Update /Pledges Needed
Om Shanti Hindu Cultural Center PUJA HALL
The construction is complete and we can use it now. We are excited that the place for gathering and
celebrations has become a reality. We are happy to start scheduling marriages, programs and dances now.
We are looking for volunteers to organize youth and senior activities. We also need volunteers for
coordinating social programs to help Hindus and Dayton community in need. We still need 1.05 million
dollars to complete Hall and Endowment. This construction is ours to last for life time. You write a check
to ‘HCO – Puja Hall’ and HCO - Hindu Cultural Center Endowment Fund.
Many of us could not become Founding Donors for HCO and Temple. Now all members have opportunity to become
Founding Donors, Grand Donors and Gold Donors for Om Shanti Hindu Cultural Center. Many of us have pledged
and contributed at certain level. Now we have the opportunity to move up. It is time for us to pay the pledges and
we need to raise $ 700,000.00 to pay for construction cost to the builder and architect by September 2012.

Founding donor- $15,000

This book is packed with two for one deal and is a great gift idea. They are available for sale now at our temple.
Contact the priests regarding this book if interested. They are on Sale at SriG Groceries (937-439-4090). Each book
is on sale for $30. HCO will receive $6 for every book sold by our temple. Support your temple, if you use it.
They are on sale from now through December 15, 2012.
1) Mrs Iyer is the person to contact for renting hall or various rooms at Om Shanti Hindu Cultural Center.
2) Sept 28 th is Dance Theater GODHA by Jyothi Raghavan at the Puja Hall. This is the first big
concert at Soin Hall in Om Shanti Hindu Cultural Center. Program will start at 7.00 PM
Donation $ 20.00 and or any amount above that.
Nominations are invited for following positions as Director of HCO Board:
The Board of Directors invites all its voting devotees interested in joining the Board to send their names to
Dr Sanjay Sandhir, President HCO Board of Directors at the earliest but no later than October 1, 2012 for
Trustee position and no later than October 20, 2012 for the Non Trustee positions.
The candidates recommended by the Nominating Committee will be informed of their selection. Candidate
not recommended will also be informed of the decision. Eligible devotees wanting to contest against the
candidates nominated by the Committee may do so by submitting heir names to the President HCO on time
and in accordance with the rules of HCO Inc.
