Prior to the workshop, I was rather comfortable with creating custom
bots, websites and general programming. When I was being invited to be
one of the student trainers of this workshop, I initially thought it would be
rather simple and effortless to introduce others to coding. However,
during the planning phase of the workshop, I realised that I was lacking
skills to teach others and being able to carefully devise the lesson plan.
Although I have been increasingly frustrated with having to scrap multiple
ideas, the constant refinement is certainty worth the effort if it makes the
concepts clearer for them to understand. Despite my trembling voice and
technical issues at the start, being able to observe their smiles and the
satisfaction of them understanding the activity gave a strong boost to my
confidence and motivation - to teach them in the most intuitive way.
During the post-evaluation, learning that most of the participants would
like to further extend their pathway in programming gave me a massive
sense of fulfilment. All in all, this course was a worthwhile opportunity for
me to acknowledge that, being a successful programmer does not only
depend on your technical skill set, but being able to deliver and spread
the art of code is arguably even more important.
