Learning Communities sharing session on Global education Learning Community sharing session (Global Education for Teachers) Five teachers recently conducted a sharing session where they shared insights from the Global Education for Teachers online course that they completed with UCL. As an IB World School, building students’ sense of global citizenship and a wider appreciation of international <strong>issue</strong>s that impact the world is important for everyone in our community. Below, one of our teachers offers some general advice for how teachers can raise awareness of global citizenship, and a student reflects on how what they have learnt during maths class relates to global education. Global Education - General tips for teachers! I feel lucky to have joined the course “Global Education for Teachers” run by University College London. This course widened my view about education and teaching, having gained especially a great deal of insight into resources and new ways to guide my future teachings. Thus, I think there are a few useful tips for teachers that can be share: 1. Global education can be implemented in the teaching of any subject at school and teachers can begin with their lesson plans. Open up different opportunities for students to connect what they have learnt to what people are doing everyday in the real-world. It can begin first from the local perspective, b e f o r e c o m p a r i n g w i t h a n international viewpoint. 2. While encouraging students to critically think and reflect about the wider world, teachers should also recognize that learners are coming into the classroom from different backgrounds, so teachers must consider opinions and responses to situations from a variety of perspectives, which may differ from their own. Finally, teachers are students too! I will be encouraging colleagues to share their thoughts on Global Citizenship Education <strong>issue</strong>s and as a whole school we will develop and, in turn, raise any Global Citizenship Education learning that is already taking place to another level.
