“FAMILY AFFAIR”
Car Owner: Aaron Munoz
Car: 1967 Buick Riviera
Models: Endia Sears, RShaun and Jamee
Car Name: “Family Affair”
We did this photoshoot at 1 of A Kind Paint on Truman Rd in Kansas City, Mo.
Aaron Munoz is the owner of this custom automobile paint shop.
Aaron Munoz is the owner of this amazing customized 1967 Buick Riviera. He has
always had a love for low rider cars, he has previously owned about 5 or 6 of them.
Aaron received word that Low Rider Magazine was going to be attending a car show
here locally in Kansas City. The magazine had not been in the KC area in a long time, so
he wanted to make sure he had a car to be in that specific car show.
Back in 2009 Aaron was in the process of looking for a car to restore and make it
a low rider for that specific car show and had decided he wanted something other then
a Chevy Impala. He happen to come across this Riviera and it was here locally in Kansas
City. So he went to check it out and it was all factory and perfect for what he was
wanting to do. Aaron drove it to the shop and the restoration began! The guys at the
shop and Aaron went to work on it, working 12 to 13 hours a day for a period of about 8
months to make the car the way it is today. You can see a lot of time and love went into
the restoration of this Riviera.
Aaron’s journey as an automobile painter began when he was a young man, walking
home from school everyday. He walked by a paint shop on the way home and the
smell of the paint and seeing what they were painting and how they were painting the
cars always intrigued him. He started off doing car models as a hobby, modifying them
to how he wanted them and it elevated into the painting business that it is today.
“Adelita”
Car Owner: Aaron Molina
Car: 1950 Chevy Truck
Models: Kellie KataStrophie
Car Name: “Adelita”
We decided to do this photoshoot in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, at a known
location called The Ship.
Aaron Molina is the proud owner of the Bad Ass low ride truck. Ever since he was a
little kid and hanging out with his big brother Alex, working on the cars, going to the car
shows and cruises in El Paso, Texas. Aaron’s big brother was a huge inspiration when it
came to wanting to restore a truck of this magnitude. His big brother was always working
on low riders, then selling them and getting another one to work on. One of Aaron’s
dreams was to own a low rider truck, because he would always see them in the magazines
and in the movies back in the 90’s.
One day Aaron decided he wanted to restore a truck and make it a low rider, he
knew that his brother had this specific 1950 Chevrolet for about a year and a half. So
he decided to see if his brother would do an even trade of a 2005 Chevy Avalanche for
the 1950 Chevy. As you will see his brother agreed. Not long after the trade happened,
Aaron spoke to one of the club members in Juarez, Mexico to set up for him to take
the truck down to start the restoration at Team 656. So Aaron and his friend Ulysses
trailered it down for them to start on the truck. The restoration took about a year and a
half total. The original plan was just for them to do the interior and the paint job. He went
down to check out the restoration and decided to let them do the mural. Then with several
more trips down to Mexico Aaron decided to do the hydraulics, chrome suspension
and the engine.
“Arielz 60”
Car Owner: Giovanni Aroni
Car: 1960 Chevy Impala
Models: Elizabeth Reed
Car Name: “Arielz 60”
We did this photoshoot at a mural wall that is on Truman Rd, not far from hwy70 in
Kansas City, Mo.
Giovanni Aroni is the proud owner of this head turning 1960 Chevy Impala. He purchased
the car about 4 years ago from a shop called Good Time Classics, about 45
minutes from the Kansas City area. He had been looking for a specific year of the Impala
because many years ago he had seen a car down the street from where he was
living at the time and knew he wanted one. When Giovanni found out what the year of
the car was and the model he started his search. In the process of him searching for a
car, he had found one in Tennessee that he liked. Giovanni almost went to look at the
Impala that was in Tennessee and at last minute decided to search again more locally.
That’s when he came across the one he has now. The day after he found the car online,
he went and looked at it and bought it that day. Giovanni was so excited to finally have
this specific car and proudly drove it from the shop to the storage unit where it would be
kept until they were to move into their new residence.
Giovanni definitely has the love and the pride of owning this 1960 Chevy Impala and
sharing that love with his daughter Ariel, who is always excited to be in the car with her
dad and enjoys going to the shows with him. When the two of them go to the car shows
Giovanni always registers the Impala in Ariel’s name so if the car is to place in the car
show Ariel is to go and claim the prize or award. He started showing the Impala about 6
months after he purchased it.
“Slix 66”
Car Owner: Jacob Birdsong
Car: 1966 Chevy Impala
Models: RShaun and Jamee Weaver
Car Name: “Slix 66”
We decided to do this photo shoot at the corner of
NW River Park Dr (HWY 9) & NW Northwood Rd in Riverside, Mo.
Also moving up to a waterfall that is on NW Northwood Rd.
Jacob Birdsong is the proud owner of this low riding 1966 Chevy Impala. Ever since
he was kid living in California, he wanted one of these cars. Jacob came across this car
back in 2000, buying it from a man that lived in Kansas that was really needing to sell it.
He knew that car was going to need some work but was willing to put the time and money
into it to make it his own. The 66 Impala’s build was put on hold due to the celebration
and birth of his first daughter. Jacob and his wife decided to put off the restoration
till she graduated.
The first thing that was done was the interior of the car. Jacob and his daughter
changed out the carpet, made some custom pieces for the interior and the trunk. He
paint matched the custom pieces to the color of the Impala and wheeled it up to his satisfaction.
Jacob started showing the car in 2015 and has won several Best of Show, Best
of Class and Honorable Mention.
Jacob is very detail oriented due to the nature of his professional airbrushing that
he does. He started airbrushing in 1991 in high school with his brother doing t-shirts and
hats. He also works for Coca Cola and has painted murals for them over a 10 year span,
the rear window
proudly displays
the car club of the
“Diverse ones” that
Jacob is a part of
here in Kansas CIty
Missouri. You can
also see the attention
to detail of the
speakers in the rear
window that has
the Impala logo on
them.
The engine is a
the engine bay.
The interior of
this 1966 Chevy
Impala was custom
done to match
the original style
of the car. Jacob
and his daughter
Jalia started with
the interior first and
made the custom
console and the
custom pieces for
the truck. He and
his daughter take
great pride in the
restoration of this
beauty. This 1966
Impala has Best
Low Rider and
“BOMBA”
Car Owner: Monica Pena
Car: 1948 Chevy Stylemaster coupe
Models: Lacy Knight
Car Name: “Bomba”
This photoshoot was done in the Crossroads of Kansas City. One of the spots is the
Royals mural and the other is at a building that was a mexican restaurant.
Monica Pena is the proud owner of this one of a kind 1948 Chevy Stylemaster coupe.
She has made sure that the restoration of this beauty was and is a reflection of herself.
She hand picked the paint colors and all of the custom pieces for her car. Monica has
been around cars her whole life because of her Dad owning a show car and her mom
also being into cars. Monica had been absent from the car scene when she had decided
to return with the Bomb, a car that was made after a World War and that had curves.
Her Dad owns a 38 so she knew what that type of car was. She wanted a car like his.
Thats when the search online began in 2011! They found a guy in Liberty Missouri who
had a 48 and 49 Chevy for sale. When they arrived to look at the cars they were both
stored in a barn on the property. Monica first drove the 49, but it didn’t need much
work, she and her Dad were wanting a car to modify to Monica’s specifications (just
needing the shell). They both agreed on buying the 48. The original plan for the two of
them to work on the car after work but Monica got injured and was unable to do the
work so her sister stepped in and helped their Dad with the car. The restoration process
of the 48 took a little over 9 months. Her Dad did all of the work on the car (except the
custom seats) from the custom console to the custom paint job, the engine build, chassis
and the tail lights. Monica’s first car show as in Tulsa Oklahoma and she won Best of
Class in May of 2012.
of the club she is
part of.
Custom interior in
the lower picture
is one of a kind
and reflects her
personality. Monica
hand picked
the colors , the
imitation alligator
teal blue vinyl
and she found the
steering wheel
at a swap meet
that matched the
interior perfect.
Her father made
the custom console
for the car
and restored it all
himself.
“BOMBA” is riding
wire rims.
The trunk contains
the air bag system
done by Jaimie
Shelley(R.I.P.)
along with a very
special fabricated
custom cooler
made by several
family members
especially for
Monica to place
in the trunk for
Bomba. As you
see the cooler is
color match to her
car.
Monica’s dad
did all of the body
work, paint and
restoration of this
coupe.
Gianna’s 61
Car Owner: Frank & Frances Florez
Car: 1961 Chevy Impala
Car Name: “ Gianna’s 61 “
This photo shoot was in two places in the Kansas City
area. Some of the photos were shot at the park at Quality Hill and some were down in
the West Bottoms.
This beautiful 1961 Chevy Impala is owned by Frank, Frances and Gabriel Florez of
Kansas City, Mo. They have taken great pride in restoring this car to where they wanted
it to be. Frank has always wanted a Chevy Impala. The couple was always on the lookout
for buying one. Well in 1981 Frances was reading the newspaper and came across
one for sale, they contacted the owner and went and looked at the car. Frank wasn’t
very fond of the interior that was in the car. The car was a show car in the 70’s and had
velour swivel seats and the color of the car was red and black. Frank knew that he would
be able to make the car his own so they bought it.
The restoration didn’t start on the Impala until 2006 when their son Gabriel graduated
from high school. Gabriel was the main influence in the restoration of the car. The
three of them went to many swap meets to find the specific parts that they wanted for
their Impala. They ended up finding the rear seat and some 1964 Impala bucket front
seats like Frank had been wanting. The car was running by 2008, Frank bartered body
work for the engine work with a friend of his. Chris Creason owner of Diamond Muffler
of Lees Summit, Mo. rebuilt the motor, transmission and did the exhaust for Frank to do
body work on his 1969 Chevelle. The complete restoration on the Impala was completed
by 2010. Frank did the remaining work himself, especially any and all body work and
paint that needed to be done.
Frank and Frances’s feelings about this beautiful Impala spans over many years from
when their son Gabriel was a baby sitting in the drivers seat pretending he was driving
the car. They have many loving memories of meeting new friends with the Impala being
a conversation starter and they continue to make many more memories with the car
and their family. Their granddaughter, Gianna at 4 years old has already claimed the
car.
The engine in this
1961 Impala is a 350
small block with an
off road transmission.
The engine
and tranny work
was done by Chris
Creason out of Lee
Summit, Missouri.
The interior is a
complete custom
job done by Martin
of Interior Shop and
Upholstery of Kansas
City, Missouri.
Frank did not like
the original interior
that was in the car
so he made the decision
to have it put
back to almost the
original look.
The Chevrolet
Impala did not
come with bucket
seats until 1962,
but that is the
preferred seat that
Frank wanted. The
front seats of this 61
Impala are out of a
1964 model.
Also the year and
model of Impala
that he has did
not come with the
option of air conditioning.
He knew
that they were
going to be making
some long road
trips so he air conditioning
installed.
The rims are a
chrome 5 star rim.
