DO ALL SPEAK IN TONGUES? - ALBERT ELISHA OBERDORFER - SAMPLE
From a strictly biblical perspective, the answer is clear. 'Yes and No.' Everybody who has received the Holy Spirit speaks in tongues as a sign. But not everybody also operates in the gift of tongues. In other words, in the bible, we find two types of speaking in tongues. - The accompanying sign of speaking in tongues, according to Jesus in Mark 16:17: "And these signs shall follow those who believe ... in my name ... they will speak with new tongues ..." - And the gift of tongues, according to Paul in 1 Corinthians 12:10-11: "To one is given ... to another different kinds of tongues .. one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills." that message in tongues.
This is how these two gifts operate. They
are on par with the gift of prophecy.
But the difference is this.
When people operate in the gift of
prophecy, they speak in an understandable
language.
Straightaway.
This will either edify, comfort, or exhort
the person (or group of people) the
prophecy is for.
When people give a message in tongues,
they first deliver the message. And
then someone (or they) provide an
interpretation of that message.
Now back to our scripture one last time.
[1 Corinthians 14:5]
I wish you all spoke with tongues, but
who prophesies is greater than he who
speaks with tongues, unless indeed he
interprets, that the church may receive
edification.
So when Paul says,
[1 Corinthians 14:5]
I WISH YOU ALL SPOKE WITH TONGUES ...
