A new 2021 Hyundai Xcient prime
mover is hard at work doing heavy
carting at an earthworks site in
regional South Australia. This highroof
6x4 Hyundai Xcient L520 is
powered by Hyundai’s six-cylinder,
520hp (388kW), 12.7-litre, intercooled
turbo diesel engine producing
2,550Nm of torque.
Hyundai Trucks Australia proudly
brought the Xcient AMT with sleep
cab to Australian roads last year. The
Xcient combines Hyundai’s world-class
diesel engine technology with proven
European transmission in a truck that
is built for performance in tough
Australian conditions.
The 12-speed ZF AS-Tronic
transmission with four-stage retarder and
hydraulic control clutch with air pressure
assistance is accompanied by a simple
steering column lever. The 27-tonne
GVM and 60-tonne gross combined mass
(GCM) rated Xcient is well suited to a
range of tipper haulage applications.
The Xcient also features full cab air
suspension, cruise control, alloy wheels
and eight airbag rear suspension (ECAS).
The model pictured on the facing page
features a Hardox tipper body with
two-way tail gate and retractable tarp,
ringfeeder coupling with hydraulics, and a
400-litre aluminium fuel tank.
MAINTENANCE
As the tilt angle of the cab increases to a
maximum of 61 degrees, the tilting cylinder
is enlarged to secure the volume of the tilting
pump reservoir, while the upper protection
cover prevents oil leakage.
The retarder system reduces the
vehicle’s maintenance cost and also
significantly improves driving safety and
brake performance by increasing the life
of the brake lining by up to four times.
The bumper-integrated front folding steps
offer easier maintenance of more parts.
Meanwhile, the integrated spring and shock
absorber generate lower vibration and
better absorption of up/down pitching.
The Xcient comes with a three-year or
500,000km factory warranty.
SAFETY
The anti-locking brake system (ABS) with
anti-slip regulator (ASR) brings the vehicle
to a safe, controlled stop and is particularly
useful while driving under slippery road
conditions. The driver can apply maximum
pressure on the brake pedal without
worrying about wheel lock, skidding and
subsequent loss of control. With ABS/ASR,
the driver can maintain full directional
stability of the vehicle at all times.
The hill start assist (HAS) feature adds
convenience to driving, while four-wheel
disc brakes with Vehicle Dynamic Control
(VDC) and daytime running lamps improve
on-road safety.
