DO IT AGAIN.
JESUS baptizes with Holy Spirit and fire.
He takes us and dips us.
This is what the word ‘to baptize’ means.
Into Holy Spirit and fire.
That is how we know that we have to do it
with the real Jesus.
Anything other than that is a counterfeit.
It is not the real Jesus.
John, the Baptist, told us how we can
know that we have to do it with the Jesus
of the bible.
The Jesus of ancient days.
John said,
“I indeed baptize you with water unto
repentance, but He who is coming after
me is mightier than I ... He will baptize
you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
(Matthew 3:11)
This is what we see happening in the book
of Acts.
And this is what Jesus is still doing today.

He is still the Baptizer with the Holy
Spirit and fire.
I have seen it so many times.
And I’d like to share with you some of my
experiences.
So that you may be inspired.
Perhaps you haven’t yet experienced what
I’m going to talk about in the following
pages.
Take heart.
The word testimony means ‘to do again.’
What Jesus has done for others, He will
do for you.

“HOLY SPIRIT
ACCOUNTANT.”
IN 2017, I was in Pemba, Mozambique, at
the Harvest School of Rolland and Heidi
Baker.
It was an amazing, life-changing
experience.
Heidi and Rolland Baker are connected
to a vast network of many international
ministers.
And many of them came to the school to
minister.
People like Bill Johnson, Brother Yun
(‘The Heavenly Man’), Leif Hetland (my
spiritual father), Paul Yadao from the
Philippines, and many others.
In one of the sessions, I received a
prophecy from David Wagner.
He has an amazing prophetic gift.
This is what he said,
“Lord, I thank you for this Holy Spirit
accountant.”

“Here is what he showed me. Everything
was decent and in order. Everything was
in like a row. I saw all of these ledger
sheets; I saw all of these things, orderly.
Everything made sense.
I feel like the Lord said that he is going to
cause you to make sense out of revelation.
What won’t make sense to other people
will make sense to you. ... You have an
understanding that was beyond their
understanding.”
And he continued ...
This was by the Holy Spirit.
David Wagner didn’t know that I had

1 WARREN,
CUNNAMULLA,
AUSTRALIA (1).
I ONCE met an Australian pastor in
Cunnamulla.
I will call him Warren.
Warren had been in ministry for more
than 25 years.
He was originally from Sydney, but he
had a heart for indigenous people—which
is why he had come to Cunnamulla.
Cunnamulla is a town in the outback
of South West Queensland, about 800
kilometers west of Brisbane.
Warren had experience in going on
missions.
He had been in Hong Kong for over a
year.
And he had been in Papua New Guinea—
many times.
For the last decade, every year, he had

made at least one mission trip to Papua by
plane.
He used to fly his own small plane and
often took a team with him.
In Cunumulla, Warren had set up a lovely
cafe called ‘The Rock Cafe.’
He used the cafe to train indigenous youth
in catering.
And to reach the community with the
gospel.
This is where Warren met my other two
Australian friends, Chris and Henry.
(At that time, I used to visit Chris and
Henry every so often on my way to the
Australian boulder opal fields.)
In Cunnamalla, Warren used to join
a prayer group that consisted of 6
Aboriginal ladies.
But one thing bothered him about this.
All these ladies were speaking in tongues.
And he was the only person in the group
who didn’t.
One day, Warren told Chris and Henry
about this issue.
They suggested him to meet up with me
next time I was passing through to discuss

this issue.
A few months later, it happened that I was
passing through Cunnamulla again.
So Chris and Henry arranged for us to
meet.
How we met was interesting.
On the day we were supposed to meet,
Warren was scheduled to do some
baptisms in a river near Cunnamulla.
So Henry took us to the baptism spot,
which was about a 30-minute drive from
the city.
My wife was also with me at that time.
When we arrived, Warren was just
baptizing 2 young ladies.
They were both in their early 30s. One of
them was an Australian. The other was a
lady from Africa with dark skin.
Warren had just finished baptizing them
when suddenly the Holy Spirit spoke to
me.
He instructed me to approach the lady
from Africa.
So I walked up to her and said what I felt
led by the Holy Spirit to say.
I said,

“In Acts 19, there is a story about Paul
baptizing some people.
Let me show you what the bible says.
It says in verse 6,
“And when Paul had laid hands on
them, the Holy Spirit came upon them,
and they spoke in other tongues and
prophesied.”
Then I said,
“I am going to lay hands on you now, and
the Holy Spirit will come upon you. And
you are also going to speak in tongues,
just like we have read in the scripture.”
She was comfortable with this.
As soon as I had laid hands on her, the
Holy Spirit fell on her.
Violently.
And immediately, she burst forth in loud
tongues.
It was just like when you open a faucet
that’s under high pressure.
And as soon as you open it, the water
starts to gush out.
Warren was standing only a couple of feet
away from us when this happened.
He looked amazed, but he didn’t say

anything then.
Interestingly, the Holy Spirit only
instructed me to lay hands on one of the
ladies.
Not on the other one.
So I just followed the leading of the Holy
Spirit.
One the way back to town, I sat with
Warren in his car, and he began to quiz
me.
He was very hungry to find out more
about the Holy Spirit.
We then arranged to meet on the
following day.
The agreement was that I would show him
from the bible what I believed the bible
talks about receiving the Holy Spirit.
This is precisely what I had been hoping
for.
When we met, Warren taped our full
conversation on video.
And how did the story end?
I will tell you a bit later. (See: 19: Warren,
Cunnamulla, Australia (2)).
It had a great ending.

What I could learn from this story is
this. It confirmed something I had been
believing in for a long time.
It is so important to base our beliefs on the
bible.
What the bible says needs to be the only
yardstick for our beliefs.
If we lay a clear scriptural foundation,
then people can receive the Holy Spirit
easily.

If they are hungry, like Warren.
I was really touched by Warren’s hunger
for the truth and an encounter.
I will tell you how the story ended a bit
later.
In some cases, as in the case of the lady
from Africa, people only need a little
encouragement.
Because they are so ready to receive.
In some cases, they need a little more
explanation.
As in the case of Patrick.

2 PATRICK, AALBORG,
DENMARK.
A COUPLE of years ago, my wife and I
were in Denmark.
We attended a kickstart seminar by
a movement that places a significant
emphasis on
- repentance,
- water baptism,
- receiving the Holy Spirit and
- praying for the sick.
There was a participant from France. A
young man. I will call him Patrick.
Patrick was a trained movie maker.
He came from a Baptist background.
And he was eager to receive the Holy
Spirit.
At the seminar, he heard the full gospel.
And then he decided that he would get
baptized.
Again.

He said,
“I now clearly understand what the
gospel is about for the first time. I didn’t
understand and believe it the first time I
got baptized.”
We said,
“If this is what you feel like doing, go for
it.”
On the next day, he then got baptized.
And after that, people prayed for him to
receive the Holy Spirit.
Several different people.
But, for some reason, he still didn’t
receive the Holy Spirit.
On the last day of the event, I then got a
chance to sit down with Patrick and open
the bible.
We looked at Bible scriptures that
explicitly talk about receiving the Holy
Spirit, including the events in the book of
Acts.
Patrick also had some questions about
speaking in tongues, and I answered him
from the bible.
After that, he said he was ready to receive.
So I laid hands on him.

And he did receive the Holy Spirit.
Easily.
But how he received was quite interesting.
It was not like in many other cases I had
seen before. Many times I have seen
the Holy Spirit falling on people almost
violently. Like “Boom!” and then they
burst forth in tongues.
But with Patrick, it was different.
With him, when I laid hands on him,
tongues started to flow out from him
gently.
Very gently.
It was almost like one word at a time.
I could see how he was stepping out in
faith and was allowing the Holy Spirit to
use his mouth to pray.
One word at a time.
In the Spirit, I felt that Patrick, at that
time, was like a baby taking the first steps.
Every time a new word in tongues came
forth, he became more confident.
Like a baby that grows in confidence
every time she can take another step
without falling.
And after a little while, Patrick was able

to speak in tongues quite fluently.
In my experience, different people receive
the Holy Spirit in different ways.
Some have a power encounter and
experience a certain measure of the power
of the Holy Spirit.
Often, when the Holy Spirit comes on
them, they will fall over.
Some experience a flame of fire that
comes on them.
Some experience the Holy Spirit like a
waterfall of glory on them.
Some start to cry.
Some start to laugh.
But when they are filled with the Holy
Spirit, I have experienced that there is
a common denominator: speaking in
tongues.
I could tell you hundreds of such stories
of how people received the Holy Spirit,
and I will share many more testimonies.
In some cases, it was only necessary for
me to give a few instructions and then lay
hands on people.
Then they easily received because they
were already very hungry and ready to

eceive.
But in most cases, I needed to prepare the
listeners to receive the Holy Spirit first—
before I could lay hands on them.
I needed first to open the word of God and
talk about what the word of God explicitly
says about receiving the Holy Spirit.
In most cases, I also had to remove some
hindrances or false beliefs or incomplete
understandings about receiving the Holy
Spirit—before they could receive.
But once people understood correctly, and
believed correctly, they could receive the
Holy Spirit easily.
As the lady in Manado in Indonesia.

3 A LADY WITH A
MUSLIM HUSBAND
RECEIVES THE HOLY
SPIRIT, MANADO,
SULAWESI, INDONESIA.
I RECALL the incident as it was
yesterday.
We were visiting our Indonesian brother
Dr. Henry and his wife, Dr. Valerie, in
Manado.
Mando is the largest city in the north of
Sulawesi island in Indonesia.
We were invited to preach to a local lady.
Her husband was a wealthy Muslim from
Jakarta.
The lady had been water baptized in
Jakarta the week before.
But not yet received the Holy Spirit.
When we entered her villa, I was shocked.

By that time, I had never seen such
opulence before.
Crystal chandeliers.
A monumental marble staircase leading up
to the second floor.
Finest mahogany furniture.
Marble floors.
Servants in uniforms.
We were courteously ushered into the
house, asked to sit down at the mahogany
table, and served crystal cups of crispy
cold water.
The lady turned out to be quite simplemannered
and very receptive to the
gospel.
I showed her scripture after scripture that
talks about people receiving the Holy
Spirit.
Then it was time to pray.
But when we got to pray for her, she told
me that she felt unworthy.
Unworthy to receive the Holy Spirit.
Some people are in a place like this.
They have a hard time receiving.
Because they think that somehow they

need to qualify to receive the Holy Spirit.
They are in a religious performance mode.
So I showed her this scripture:
“If you then, being evil, know how to give
good gifts unto your children, how much
more will your heavenly Father give the
Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke
11:13)
I said to her,
“The Holy Spirit is a gift.”
“You can’t deserve a gift.”
“You can’t work for it.”
“All you need to do is to receive the Holy
Spirit like a child would receive a gift
from a loving parent.”
This lady had a five or so year old son,
and she loved him very much.
So she understood.
We then laid hands on her, and the Holy
Spirit gloriously fell on her with great
power and tongues of fiery love.
And yes, she also began to speak in a
Spirit language (tongues).
The Lord touched her.
Wonderful Jesus.

I will never forget this event.
So if people are in a religious performance
mode, it can be difficult for them to
receive the Holy Spirit.
But the power of Jesus’ love can
overcome that.
As it also was the case with a group of
leaders of a Thai congregation.

4 A GROUP OF
LEADERS IN A THAI
CONGREGATION
RECEIVE THE HOLY
SPIRIT, CHIANG MAI,
THAILAND.
ONE AFTERNOON, I was joining a
teaching session for a group of leaders
and church members.
It was at a local Thai congregation in
Chiang Mai.
I guess there were about 40-50 people in
the room.
The pastor would be talking about the
Holy Spirit.
And then I would pray for the people
afterward.
That was the plan.

She then preached on Acts 2:1-21, and at
the end of the meeting, she asked me to
pray for the people in the room.
When I began to speak, the Holy Spirit
came on me.
I found myself saying,
“Who here is already baptized by full
immersion and has already received the
Holy Spirit?
So are you also familiar with speaking in
tongues?”
About half of the people in the room
raised their hands.
Then I asked this group to move into one
corner of the room.
Then I said,
“Who has been baptized already by full
immersion? You already have understood
the gospel of Jesus’ death, burial, and
resurrection? You understood that when
Jesus died, you died with Him. That’s is
why you then got baptized.”
“But you haven’t yet received the Holy
Spirit.
You are not familiar with speaking in
tongues.”

About one-third of the people in the room
raised their hands.
Then I asked this group to move into
another corner of the room.
And then I said,
“Who here hasn’t yet understood the
gospel clearly or hasn’t yet been baptized
by full immersion?”
About ten or so people also raised their
hands.
And I also ask them to move into another
corner of the room.
Then I said,
“Those who have been baptized already
but not yet received the Holy Spirit, and
you would like to, I would like to pray for
you. Please come to the front.”
Then I explained that when the Holy
Spirit’s fire comes into us and connects
with our tongues, we will also speak in a
spiritual language.
I also showed them that everybody’s
tongues sound different.
So I walked around and asked some
people to speak into the microphone in
tongues. These were people who were
already filled with the Holy Spirit.

I wanted the audience to understand that
everybody’s prayer language sounded
different.
So they would then be free to speak out
in the prayer language (tongues) that the
Holy Spirit gave to them.
I think I also showed them that when we
pray in tongues, then we pray to God. It is
a prayer that is directed to God. So others
do not understand this prayer.
After that, I began to lay hands on people
to receive the Holy Spirit.
I also held the microphone to their mouths
and asked them to release the prayer
language.
One by one, they were filled with the Holy
Spirit and began to speak in other tongues,
as the Spirit gave them utterance.
On most, the Holy Spirit came powerfully.
And most (if not all) people I laid hands
on fell under God’s power after receiving
Holy Spirit.
I still remember how I felt at that moment.
I had this experience of being totally
immersed in liquid love.
And as love was pouring through me, the
power of God also manifested strongly.

Many people also started to cry or laugh
or shake under the power of God.
Some of the people had been prayed for
many times to receive the Holy Spirit
before.
One particular man came to me and
said that he had been prayed for already
ten times to receive, but nothing had
happened.
When he said this, it was like somebody
had told me, ‘Today is such a beautiful
day.”
I mean, I was not in any way affected by
what the man said.
It was like what he said went in one ear
and came out the other eye.
I think the gift of faith was also operating
in me on that day.
But as soon as I had laid hands on that
man, the Holy Spirit came on him, and he
had an intense encounter with the fire and
power of God.
And yes, he also began to speak in other
tongues.
This is what Jesus is still doing today.
He is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit.

When He immerses someone in the Holy
Spirit, then the Holy Spirit goes inside
that person, and the life from that moment
on is no longer the same.
Jesus’ love can break the greatest religious
strongholds.
As it was the case with a certain Buddhist
monk.

5 A BUDDHIST MONK
RECEIVES THE HOLY
SPIRIT, THAILAND.
ONE DAY, I got an e-mail from a man
from Slovenia.
He had been an ordained Buddhist monk
in Thailand for three years.
He was a disciple of one of the most
powerful monks in the country.
I will call him Slavo.
Before he came to Thailand, Slavo had
also been in Tibet and India.
He was practicing solitary meditation in
caves in high places in Tibet.
One day, on the Internet, Slavo came
across a lady who had been into
Buddhism before.
But this lady had experienced Jesus
setting her free.
And she was giving her testimony in a
Youtube video.

Slavo also came across a video of a
lady praying in tongues and casting out
demons.
As he listened, he felt three demons
leaving him through his head chakra.
He also felt the presence of God
powerfully coming upon him.
Slavo then found my contact address on
the Internet and got in contact with me
through e-mail.
He asked whether he could come to see
me in Chiang Mai.
A few days later, I picked him up from the
train station in Chiang Mai.
On that day, it was the first day that he had
laid aside his robes in three years.
My friend and I then preached the gospel
to Slavo and baptized him in a swimming
pool.
Slavo received a powerful touch of the
Holy Spirit, and he also began to speak in
his prayer language (tongues).
From then on, my friend Peter Dariusz, I,
and Slavo started praying together.
Slavo was used to long periods of
meditation and stillness. So long hours
of praying in the Spirit (tongues) came

naturally to him.
From then on, together, we experienced
glorious encounters with the Lord.
Later, Slavo began opening up about his
past life.
Before entering a season of life as a
serious Buddhist, Slavo had been through
a season as a true prodigal son.
He knew what it was like to engage in
criminal activities, and he knew what it
was like being in prison.
Slavo had gone from being a prodigal son
to being a religious son, like in the parable
of the two sons in Luke 15.
Only when Jesus touched him, Slavo
experienced a homecoming as a beloved
son.
Jesus extends His grace to the prodigals
and the religious.
Jesus knows that both need His love.
Jesus extends his hand to both, like in the
case of our next story.

6 BELIEVERS FROM
A COUNTRY WHERE
CHRISTIANS ARE
PERSECUTED RECEIVE
THE HOLY SPIRIT.
IN CERTAIN countries, people are
persecuted for their faith.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege
to help some of them to come into the
fullness of the Holy Spirit.
Often I needed to show them from the
scriptures about the Holy Spirit.
Once they understood, it was not difficult
for them to receive.
I remember two people, a bible teacher
and an English translator.
They were interested in receiving the
Holy Spirit and came to me.
The bible teacher then showed me a
scripture from Paul’s first letter to the

Corinthians.
This scripture seems to say that not
everybody speaks in tongues.
It says,
“... do all speak with tongues?” (1
Corinthians 12:30)
I then showed him that there are two types
of speaking in tongues.
The sign of tongues and the gift of
tongues.
I showed him that this passage talks about
speaking in tongues as a spiritual gift.
The speaking in tongues that is mentioned
in this passage is not the same speaking in
tongues as in the book of Acts.
One of the two believers (the Bible
teacher) didn’t accept what I was talking
about.
But the other, the English teacher did.
He said,
“I can understand now. In our
congregation, people know the word of
God, and they are being taught it, but
what we are missing is the joy and the life
from Christ.”
“I want to receive what you are talking

about. And I would like to get baptized by
full immersion now that I understand the
gospel and about the Holy Spirit.”
We then baptized him, and he received the
Holy Spirit, and a real touch from God, as
in Acts.
Recently, a young person also came to us
from the same country.
He had a strong apostolic calling on his
life.
And he also desired to get baptized by full
immersion and receive the Holy Spirit as
in Acts.
We baptized him in a private swimming
pool that belonged to a clubhouse of a
complex of villas.
After we had baptized him, demonic
spirits started to manifest in him.
Legions of them.
He began to cough up poisonous
substances from his stomach even while
he was still in the water.
This then got us in trouble with the other
visitors who had come for a swim in the
same pool.
They then called the administration of that
clubhouse.

After that, we took our friend to a private
prayer room.
There, his deliverance continued.
About every 30 seconds, he kept coughing
up a substance.
This continued for over an hour.
We tried to cover the substances with a
tissue every time he coughed something
up.
After a while, the tissues started to pile
up.
By the time we were finished, there was
about a stack of 20 cm of tissue paper on
the floor.
He experienced an incredible delivery
from the legions of demons.
It was a real spiritual showdown.
And in the end, Jesus won.
When he left, he wrote us an encouraging
thank you letter:
“Dear ___,
Thank you for taking care of me these
days, not only for teaching me Bible
knowledge, but also showing me how
to love people. It’s an unforgettable
memory for me. Keep on loving each

other as brothers (Hebrews 13:11). Grace
be with you all.
Love and respect.”
Wonderful Jesus!

7 AT A SEMINARY IN
THAILAND.
A GUEST speaker from Australia had
come to give an enlightening message.
It was at a particular seminary in
Thailand.
He taught how to preach the gospel to
people from a Buddhist background.
Then at the end of his interactive lecture,
there was a question and answer session.
I asked him what he thought about what
Jesus had taught.
That we need to have received the Holy
Spirit before we can be a witness of Him.
I had Luke 24: 48-49 in mind where Jesus
says to His disciples:
“You are witnesses of these things.
Behold, I send the Promise of My Father
upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem
until you are endued with power from on
high.” (verses 48 - 49)

And Acts 1:4-8, where Jesus repeats this
promise:
“And being assembled together with
them, He commanded not to depart
from Jerusalem, but to wait for the
Promise of the Father, ‘which,’ He said,
‘you have heard from Me;
For John truly baptized with water, but
you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit
not many days from now.’
Therefore, when they had come together,
they asked Him, saying, ‘Lord, will You at
this time restore the kingdom to Israel?’
And He said to them, ‘It is not for you
to know times and seasons which the
Father has put in His own authority.
But YOU SHALL RECEIVE POWER
WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS COME
UPON YOU; and you shall be witnesses
to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the end of the earth.’”
These were the scriptures I had in mind
when I asked the question.
I think I also mentioned that today not
everybody who is trying to be a witness
has already made this experience.
The guest speaker wholeheartedly agreed.

He said,
“Yes! That is why it is so important that
we pray for people to receive the Holy
Spirit, and that is what I always do before
I tell them to preach the gospel.”
He also said,
“Is there anybody here who hasn’t made
this experience of receiving the Holy
Spirit yet?”
“I would love to pray for all those who
haven’t made this experience yet. And you
will receive.”
My heart was leaping for joy when I heard
that.
I was also sure that if we prayed for
people who were hungry to receive, they
would receive.
In my experience, with a little scriptural
explanation, those who are open and
hungry to receive will surely receive.
But then something unfortunate happened.
The leader of the seminary stepped
forward.
He then forbade the guest speaker to pray
for anyone.
I’m not exactly sure what he said and how

he explained it.
But it seemed that this denominational
stream was strictly opposing any move of
the Holy Spirit and things like speaking in
tongues.
This denomination appears to be purely
Bible-based, with a focus on expositing
the Bible.
But not on experiencing the Holy Spirit.
The guest speaker then said,
“I will honor what you have said and not
pray for anyone.”
He did the right thing.
He honored the leader’s decision because
he had been invited to give a talk there.
He was not the leader of that place.
But it was a sad thing because I believe
that people could have easily received.
And when people receive the Holy
Spirit, then they begin to experience real
freedom.
But the religious spirit— which is a
demonic spirit— doesn’t like that.
He wants to keep people in bondage and
under fear-based control.
So often, there is a price to pay when we

choose to follow the leading of the Holy
Spirit.
And also, importantly, we need the
wisdom of God to operate in these kinds
of settings.
But I have also experienced good news in
that area.
By the grace of God, I have seen whole
congregations receive the Holy Spirit.
Like in Chiang Mai.

8 A WHOLE
CONGREGATION
RECEIVES THE HOLY
SPIRIT, CHIANG MAI,
THAILAND.
SOME TIME ago, the Lord connected
one of my covenant brothers and me to a
couple in Chiang Mai.
They were the leaders of a congregation
consisting of mainly young people and
students.
When we prayed together, I felt prompted
to ask them about their experience with
the Holy Spirit.
I felt that the Holy Spirit was leading me
to ask this question.
The Holy Spirit then also empowered me
and gave me His wisdom to talk to them
about this topic.
The couple was very open and also
wanted to get baptized on the next day.

The husband already had some experience
with the Holy Spirit.
But both of them hadn’t been baptized by
full immersion yet.
Because this was not practiced in their
congregation.
So, on the next day, we then baptized
them in a swimming pool, and they both
had a glorious encounter with the Holy
Spirit.
This was a new experience for them.
The pastor couple then gave us access to
all the members of their congregation.
Within a few weeks, the whole
congregation (a group of around 30 young
people) got baptized by full immersion
and received the Holy Spirit.
So a whole congregation made a shift.
They were now Spirit-filled.
And they were all baptized by full
immersion.
It was wonderful.
But the religious spirit didn’t like it.
When the leaders of the denomination
heard about it, they asked our friends to
stop this practice.

Because these things were not part of
what this denomination practiced.
So the leaders gave our pastor couple a
choice.
Stay within the denomination and adhere
to the denomination’s guidelines and
by-laws that included not talking about
Holy Spirit baptism and baptism by full
immersion, or leave.
And also move out of all the buildings and
the facilities that had been provided by the
organization.
And loose financial support.
For our friends, it was not a difficult
choice.
They joyfully decided to go with the Holy
Spirit.
Then within a period of a few months,
they had to move out of their facilities and
start anew in a new location.
Since then, the Lord gave our friends
the idea to run a coffee shop and use the
coffee shop as a facility for the church.
The Lord is doing a new thing in their life.
So why am I talking about this?
Sometimes there is a price to pay if you

want to be obedient to the Lord.
You might lose something.
But what you are gaining when you
follow the Lord cannot be compared with
anything you might have to give up or
loose.
Paul put it this way. He said,
“I consider that the sufferings of this
present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be
revealed in us.” (Romans 8:18)
So Paul was heavenly-minded.
I have also personally had a
God-experience that has shaped me since
I was very young.
Here is my story.

9 FROM CATHOLICISM
TO JESUS—MY STORY.
MY FIRST GOD-EXPERIENCE
I’m from Pörtschach.
Pörtschach is a beautiful scenic village in
the southern central part of Austria.
What makes it so unique is the location.
Pörtschach is nestled on the northern
shore of a picturesque alpine lake.
The lake is about 20 kilometers long and
1-2 kilometers wide.
It is called the ‘Wörthersee.’
One of the bays in Pörtschach is called the
‘Westbucht.’
When you stand on the lakefront in the
Westbucht, and you look toward the
Southwest, you can see some of the most
amazing sunsets.
Mostly in autumn and in winter.
On certain days, when it is cloudy, the

whole sky will light up in a firework of
exquisite yellows, oranges, purples, and
reds against the backdrop of the southern
Austrian Alps.
And sometimes when the lake is calm, it
is like a huge mirror.
Then it will magically reflect the Monetlike
colors of the sunset on the still waters
of the lake.
My parent’s house was just a stone’s
throw from the lake.
And as a teenager, I loved sunsets.
I would often dash down to the lake
whenever I noticed that a promising
sunset was in the making.
Then I would recline on one of the
boardwalks, and reminisce about life
while gazing at the lake and the goingdown
sun.
Much of my childhood revolved around
the lake.
Because we were living so close to it.
All year round, I was daily walking our
dogs along the promenade in Pörtschach.
I also did lots of water sports.
In summer: swimming, surfing, and

sailing.
And in winter: skating and playing
ice-hockey.
Some times in winter, the lake would
overnight turn into a sparkling mirror.
When the conditions for freezing were
right.
Then, I would often go ice skating—many
times for hours.
I would skate from Pörtschach to Velden,
or Maria Wörth, and sometimes even to
Klagenfurt and back.
On sunny days, as I was skating along, I
was always fascinated by the reflections
of the sun rays on the ice.
To me, the flickering reflections seemed
to be engaged in a never-ending
mesmerizing dance on the polished
surface of the ice.
Fishing was also on the plate.
I didn’t do much of it myself.
But my dad.
In spring and autumn, dad was often out
fishing for pikes from the promenade in
the Westbucht.
He had his fiberglass fishing rods, corks

obbers, lead sinkers, and live bait.
I loved watching him.
It was a game of watching the boobers.
And when they would disappear under the
water, it was a matter of pulling at the rod
as hard as possible at just the right time.
The best time for pike was 2-3 days
before the arrival of rain from the Adriatic
region.
It was always windy on those days.
The wind was always coming from the
southeastern direction.
As a boy, I once had this God-experience.
When I was 8.
One warm and breezy late morning in
spring, I was strolling along the lake’s
promenade.
I was just glancing aimlessly at the lake
when I spotted a Mullard duck with some
ducklings trailing in her wake.
I paused to watch the quaking ducklings
as they darted around playfully on the
sparkling, dancing waves of the sunlit
lake.
Suddenly a sense of overwhelming joy
and feeling of calmness and serenity

egan to flood me from deep within.
Suddenly the whole scene—the dabbling
ducks, the turquoise water that reflected
the glittering rays of the sun—felt out of
this world.
It was indescribably glorious.
Back then, I didn’t know what it was.
Today I know.
This was the first time that I had
experienced the glory presence of God.
“I EXIST, AND YOU ARE GOING TO FIND
ME.”
Back then, it also was as if God was
speaking to me in my heart.
I felt Him saying something like, “I exist,
and one day you are going to find me.”
This whole experience probably lasted
about 10 minutes.
Yet it profoundly marked me.
It instilled in me this unshakable belief
that God was looking after me—and that
one day I would find Him.

AMERICAN INDIANS, ZEN, AND THE
BIBLE
As a teenager, I always felt that I was
different from other teens my age.
I had this deep, deep longing in me to find
the meaning of life—and I was on a quest
to find it.
I was interested in sports.
But apart from that, I wasn’t into much of
what teenagers my age were usually into.
Instead, I was interested in spirituality.
Philosophy.
New Age teachings.
Native American Indians.
I used to watch films like ‘Koyaanisqatsi.’
That’s a film that shows the futility of a
life that is detached from nature.
It’s based on Hopi philosophy.
I was also interested in Zen Buddhism.
There is also a German writer called
Herman Hesse who popularized
Buddhism at this time.
His book ‘Siddhartha’ is basically a
modern version of Buddha’s life story.

I used to love reading books like that.
And I liked to read books that contained
memorable quotes.
Like,
And,
“Be kind whenever possible. It is always
possible.” 1
“It has been said that something as
small as the flutter of a butterfly’s wing
can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway
around the world.” 2
I even knew a few quotes from the Bible.
Like,
And,
“You shall love your neighbor as (you
love) yourself.” (Mark 12:31)
“ ... whatever you want men to do to you,
do also to them ...“ (Matthew 7:12)
“Most sayings sounded good, but
how to apply them in my real life, I
didn’t know.”
I found that most of those nuggets of
wisdom sounded good.
I knew many by heart.
But I also came to realize this.

I just couldn’t apply them in practice.
They were all in my head.
But I didn’t practice them.
I felt like Paul.
He talked about his experience in
Romans, chapter 7.
Paul says,
“... I have the desire to do what is good,
but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do
the good I want to do ...” (Romans 7:18-
19) (NIV)
That’s exactly how I felt.
I failed like Paul.
I wanted to love my mum and dad,
brothers, and the people around me.
But I couldn’t do it like I wanted to.
But the one thing that has always given
me comfort is nature.
I would often go jogging in the lone pine
forests near my village.
Often for hours.
And even during winter.
I loved walking through the snow.
Ankle-deep snow.

Even knee-deep.
I never used to be afraid of the dark.
I reasoned that if anyone was out and
about in the forest as such a time as I was,
they would probably be more afraid of me
than I would be of them.
Sometimes, I would also camp out alone
in the forest.
Overnight.
I would find a moss-covered spot to set up
my down sleeping bag.
And I lay there gazing for hours through
the tree’s canopy at the bright starlit sky
before falling asleep.
Once in midwinter, I decided to test my
new down sleeping bag on the balcony of
our house.
The outside temperature was minus 15
degrees Celsius.
My grandmother saw me, and she thought
that my parents had locked me out.
So she began to earnestly beg my parents
to allow me back into the house because
she thought that they had locked me out of
the house as some kind of punishment.
As I told you, I was interested in

Buddhism.
One day, I bought a bundle of heavily
scented incense sticks in some
paraphernalia shop in Klagenfurt.
I didn’t really know how to use them
except that you light them, and then they
give off a smell.
When I got home, I went to my room, and
then I lit them.
All at once.
Within a few minutes, the room had filled
up with heavily scented smoke.
And the smoke kept seeping through the
door of my room, and it filled the aisles of
our 2-story house.
This got my dad on his toes.
He was a master plumber by profession.
So, at first, he suspected that there was a
severe gas leak in the house somewhere.
Then he figured out where the smoke was
coming from.
I have very rarely seen my dad lose his
cool.
But that was one of these days.
He and my mum then had a good word
with me about the whole incident.

And that was the first, and the last time, I
did something like that ever again.
‘0-POINT’ AND AN OPAL-FIELD CALLED
COOBER PEDY
Fast forward to the year 1989.
At the age of 19, I went on a trip to
Australia.
For 9 months, I traveled all around
Australia by car.
But by then, I had run out of money.
So I had to sell my car.
I still had my backpack.
Some clothes.
A small tent.
A sleeping bag
And 120 dollars in cash.
That was all the money I had left.
But I had planned to stay in Australia for
one year.
So I set out hitchhiking.
I was planning to visit the opal fields in
South Australia.
And after a few long truck rides, I found

myself in the sun-scorched desert of South
Australia.
South Australia is the driest state in the
driest continent on earth.
I eventually reached Coober Pedy.
Coober Pedy is an opal mining town
where more than 50% of the population
lives in dugouts 1 to escape the soaring
temperatures.
In summer, the temperatures can reach up
to 50+ degrees Celcius (in the shade).
Then I met Johannan (Ivan) Radeka.
Back then, he was running an
underground motel and Backpacker’s
called Radeka’s Dugout.
Almost every evening, Johannan would
give a lecture to backpackers.
His topic was ‘the 4th dimension.’
In his lecture, he would first talk to
groups of backpackers about this spiritual
dimension (he called it the 4 th dimension).
And then eventually, he would preach to
them about Jesus.
I then sat in on one of his lectures.
And for the first time, I heard about Jesus.

I HEAR THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS
I came from a Catholic background.
So, as a baby, I had been ‘baptized.’
As a teenager, I had been ‘confirmed.’
I used to attend Masses.
But somehow, when I was about 15, I
used to stop going.
It didn’t touch me in my heart.
And I was looking for something that
would fulfill my inner longing.
My quest for truth.
So, one night I heard Johannan preach
about Jesus.
That through Jesus, we could find what he
called the ‘0-point’.
Johanan said that when we find this
‘0-point,’ our search for truth and the
meaning of life will end.
By ‘0-point’, Johannan was referring to
the Holy Spirit.
“REPENT, BE BAPTIZED, AND RECEIVE
THE HOLY SPIRIT.”
Johanan also kept emphasizing how to

espond to the gospel.
He said,
“Look at Acts 2.
After the disciples of Jesus received the
Holy Spirit, they began to preach about
Jesus.
And when their listeners were touched
in their hearts and believed the message
about Jesus, they asked Peter,
‘What shall we do?’
This is what Peter said to those people.”
Then Johanan quoted from the word of
God,
“Repent, and let every one of you be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins; and you shall
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the
promise is to you and to your children,
and to all who are afar off, as many as
the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:38-
39)
After that Johanan said,
“Look, the Holy Spirit is for you today.
You can receive the Holy Spirit through
what Jesus has done, just like the disciples
in the book of Acts did.”

Instinctively, I knew that this was what I
had been looking for all my life.
So I then decided to turn to Jesus (repent)
and get water baptized.
“COME”
The night before I got baptized, Jesus
spoke to me in a dream.
I didn’t see his appearance, but I heard his
audible voice.
Jesus’ voice was unlike any other voice I
had ever heard before.
It was full of perfect love—an
unconditional love that is free of
condemnation of any kind.
And it was full of absolute authority.
When I heard it, I knew that whatever
Jesus would command, it would happen.
And for some reason, I knew that it was
Jesus. (Jesus didn’t have to introduce
himself.)
Jesus spoke to me three words. First, He
called me by my name, twice.
“Albert, Albert.”
Then He said,

“Come.”
And I remember responding,
“Yes.”
A MAKESHIFT BATHTUB AND THE LOVE
OF GOD
I still clearly remember what happened
when I got baptized.
As I said, Johanan was running an
underground motel and backpackers.
In the backyard, there was an additional
room.
This room contained some bunk beds and,
behind a partition, a makeshift bathtub.
The ‘bathtub’ consisted of some planks of
wood that were covered with a plastic foil.
Whenever Johanan baptized someone, he
would fill the tub with water.
In winter, he would add a kettle of boiled
water to the baptismal water.
As a bonus.
Because it can get surprisingly cold in the
desert.
Especially at night time.
And especially during the winter.

Then Johanan led me into a prayer.
In that prayer, I committed my life to
Jesus.
And then he was about to baptize me.
But just as I was about to get baptized,
some other backpackers started knocking
on the doo.
They wanted to get into the room to get
some stuff.
And because it was their room, Johanan
had to let them in.
When they entered, they looked quite
puzzled.
They didn’t know what to make out of the
whole baptismal scenario.
“When I received the Holy Spirit, I
felt the love and presence of God
coming over me, and I began to speak
in stammering lips.”
Then, once they had left again, Johannan
baptized me.
And laid his hands on me.
At that moment, I felt the love and the
presence of God gently coming over me.
Johanan encouraged me to speak out to

the Lord in tongues.
And I began to speak in stammering lips. 2
We finished and then opened the door
again.
The other backpackers were at the door a
second time.
Once more, they were eager to get into the
room once more to see what we had been
up to.
This time, they saw me standing there in
my shorts.
I was dripping wet and shining with the
glory of God.
Johanan then jokingly said,
“Look, he just took a bath.
There is something special in that water
that washes you clean and makes you
whole.
Do you want to take a bath in that water
as well?”
When they heard that, they quickly
retreated.
Because they couldn’t figure out if
Johannan was joking or not.
Some of them, I think, were Japanese.

I didn’t speak in full tongues when I got
baptized.
But on the evening of that day, I felt a
strong urge to go back to my room.
And kneel on the floor.
I was by myself.
Then I started praying again and allowed
the Holy Spirit to pray through me.
Suddenly, full tongues started to gush out
from me.
I kept praying in tongues for over an hour.
The glory of God came on me, and I
experienced surges of his power and
presence going through the innermost
parts of my being.
I had genuinely received the Holy Spirit.
(I have also been praying in tongues every
day since, and have been experiencing the
glory of God.)
This was the starting point of my walk
with the Lord.
That was 30+ years ago.
Ever since I have been telling people
about Jesus.
And when they believe, I tell them how to
respond to Him, like Peter told the people

in Acts,
“Repent, ... be baptized ... and you shall
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit ...” (Acts
2:39)
GOD IS FAITHFUL
I’ve had the privilege to see hundreds of
people receive the Holy Spirit —either
before, while, or after they got water
baptized.
Just as we read about in Acts.
Some of these people had been water
baptized before.
But at that time, they didn’t really
understand who Jesus is, and what He has
done for us.
And that He is the giver of the Holy
Spirit.
Often these people got baptized again
after correctly understanding what the
gospel of Jesus Christ is about.
Then they often easily received the Holy
Spirit.
Many of those people at first had certain
questions, objections, and doubts.
I’ve always tried to help them as much as

I could to answer their questions.
By showing them what the word of God
says.
In order to remove their doubts.
Most of them then received the Holy
Spirit easily.
God’s will is very clear.
He desires that all believers receive the
Holy Spirit.
According to the promise,
“And it shall come to pass in the last
days, says God, that I will pour out of
My Spirit on all flesh …” (Joel 2:28, Acts
2:17)
So if you haven’t received the Holy Spirit
yet, get ready to receive.

10 FROM BUDDHA
TO JESUS—DR.
PENINNAH’S STORY.
MOON CAKES AND MAKEUP
I’m from a Chinese Buddhist family in
Chiang Mai, Thailand.
In our family, we followed both Chinese
and Buddhist traditions.
Buddhism says, ‘Do good, get good; do
bad, get bad.’
So like all good Buddhists, I was
continually trying to make merit by doing
‘good deeds.’
I donated money to temples.
I prostrated myself before Buddha images.
I burned incense and offered fruit and
flowers.
I participate in all kinds of religious rituals
and merit-making ceremonies.
Sometimes I also worshiped sacred rocks

and even trees.
I wore amulets for protection.
I knelt down in front of monks.
I offered food to monks in the early
mornings.
On special days, I would offer them black
food (such as black glutinous rice and
fried liver).
And on certain other days, yellow
food (such as yellow curry and eggs),
according to the rules of our religion.
I would ‘wai’ (a Thai form of greeting)
and pray to our Buddha statue at home.
Every day.
Before leaving the house and before going
to bed.
I performed all these merit-making rituals
that were required by my religion.
Even if it didn’t make much sense to me.
I have 2 older sisters and a younger
brother.
My second-oldest sister and I were born
on the same day of the year.
Each year, on our birthday, we prepared
about 100 sets of all kinds of delicious
food and offered them to monks early in

the morning.
I never liked doing these food offerings.
That’s because getting-up early was not
my thing.
Many times, it happened that I was still
sleeping when the monks were passing by
our house.
And when I woke up, they had already
come and gone.
As I’ve said before, I’m from a Chinesebased
family.
So we performed several kinds of Chinese
good-luck rituals as well.
For example, ancestral worship.
And moon worship.
On the day of the full moon festival, we
would prepare special kinds of food.
Moon cakes as well.
Then at dusk, we would gather on the
balcony of our house.
And when the moon came up, we would
offer food sacrifices.
And worship the moon.
My mother would put some makeup and
white powder on our faces.

And comb our hair.
This would help us to look more beautiful
when we were grown-up, mum said.
I remember one day, we were celebrating
the rising moon.
I must have been about 11 or 12 years old.
Suddenly, this question popped up in my
mind;
“Who has hung the moon up there with all
the stars?
And all in good order?”
I thought there must have been someone.
Because it looked so orderly.
I thought,
“Maybe there is someone whose job is to
hang the moon and the stars orderly in the
sky after sunset?”
“DEATH IS LIKE A BUTTERFLY”
At about that time, I also started to think
about life after death.
One night, I was going to the toilet.
And this question came to me,
“What’s life after death like? Was it going

to be dark?”
I began to ask my friends what they
thought about death.
Some would say things like,
“Death is like a butterfly. A butterfly
doesn’t know anything when it changes
from a cocoon into a butterfly. Death is
like that.”
I also asked my dad.
He said,
“When people die, it’s like when a bomb
explodes. Suddenly, all goes dark, and
then all is gone.”
“ ... but in my mind, these nagging
questions about life and death and
nature remained.”
But all these answers didn’t satisfy me.
They didn’t sound convincing.
So in my mind, these nagging questions
about life and death remained.
They wouldn’t go away.
And I couldn’t find any satisfying
answers.
So I finished high school. After that, I
entered the medical faculty of Chiang Mai

University to become a medical doctor.
Six years later, I graduated with an MD.
A CAVE IN CHIANG DAO
After medical school, I was posted to a
small country town called Chiang Dao.
Chiang Dao is about 70 kilometers from
Chiang Mai.
Sometimes I had visitors.
Then I would take them around to all the
tourist attractions in the area.
One of those was the famous Chiang Dao
cave.
You can take a guided tour through the
cave where you can see some magnificent
rock formations.
Stalactites and stalagmites.
I had been to the cave many times before.
But one day, I stood at the entrance of the
cave and was waiting for my friends.
I looked down at a Buddhist statue below.
In Thailand, in many caves, there are idols
that people worship.
So I stood there looking down casually at
the statue.

Suddenly this thought came to me,
“Why does this statue look like a rock?
And why don’t I feel now to respect it, as
I usually would?”
I had been brought up as a Buddhist.
So I was used to worshipping idols
wherever I was told that this is what I
should do.
But on that particular day, it was different.
I didn’t feel like worshipping this
particular statue at all.
Then I began to feel condemned.
Because, as a Buddhist, this is not what I
was supposed to think.
This was not the proper way to think.
When I had finished my 3 years of
medical training in Chiang Dao, I then
returned to Chiang Mai.
To continue my training as a specialist.
And at the same time, I was also accepted
as a lecturer in the department of
pediatrics.
INTERNAL ORGANS
One day, I was studying the internal organ

system in detail:
- How all the organs work,
- The function of hormones, enzymes, and
- The absorption mechanisms.
Suddenly, this question came to me, “Who
designed all this?”
I thought that a person who can design
something like this must be brilliant.
That person must know all about us.
I thought that all this (evidence of
design) should be something that occurs
coincidentally.
This question stuck with me, ever since
this day.
It was one of my starting points in my
search for God.
A year later, I got a scholarship from the
government to do postgraduate studies in
Australia.
A Master’s degree and a Ph.D.
FROM CHURCH SERVICES TO PARTIES
When I arrived in Australia, I got to know
Mimmy.
She was another Master’s student from the

Philippines.
For me, Mimmy was the role-model of a
strict Catholic.
But there was something that amazed me.
She kept complaining to me about almost
everything.
And her life was full of difficulties.
By nature, Mimmy was very fearful.
And she kept asking me what she should
do.
So, I was wondering about that.
I said to myself, “Why do I have a better
life than her? Why doesn’t her God help
her?”
One day, Mimmy and I were invited to a
Baptist church service in Islington.
Mimmy told me to dress my best.
I had to iron my skirt and put on my best
dress.
I wore a blue blouse with long sleeves, a
colorful scarf, and a long white skirt.
At the service, I also met a Thai boy.
He eagerly tried to show me scriptures
from the bible.
But I didn’t understand anything he was

saying.
After the service, we were on the way
home.
Mimmy told me that this was not her
church.
So she would stop going to that church.
From then on, she only attended mass 3 at
a Catholic church near our house.
But I noticed one thing.
Even though Mimmy kept attending Mass
regularly, her lifestyle was the same as
that of most other people.
I kept going to the Baptist services for a
while.
But over time, my motivation and my
reasons for going there changed.
In the beginning, I had been searching for
God.
But after having gone there for a few
weeks, I continued going because I liked
meeting new friends.
And because after the meetings, we would
go to restaurants.
We kept alternating between a Hong Kong
restaurant, a Thai restaurant, a Chinese
restaurant, and a Turkish restaurant.

Besides, I got to know some Indonesian
students.
And they had an Indonesian party, almost
every week.
But this still didn’t help.
I was full of food.
But I still felt empty inside.
After a while, my satisfaction rate also
dropped.
Getting to know new friends, going to
restaurants, and going to parties didn’t
feel so appealing anymore.
So I left the Baptist church.
I switched to full party mode.
I went to night camps, the Octoberfest,
and Jazz festivals.
On one occasion, I would do a pub crawl.
We went to 4 consecutive 4 pubs in one
night.
Then early morning, I took the bus to
Sydney.
And then flew to Singapore to do some
shopping.
I was still looking for something that
could satisfy me.

At that time, I was staying in an apartment
in Merewether. That’s a suburb in
Newcastle near the beach.
WHERE IS GOD?
One morning, I got up at 6 a.m and
started walking along the beach towards
Newcastle city.
Along the way, I stopped at a beautiful
park with lots of flowers that overlooks
the ocean.
It is called Edward Park.
I sat down on the ground.
“As I was looking down at the ocean
and took in the fresh air from the sea, I
started to think, ‘Where is God? What
is he like? Could I ever find him?’”
As I was looking down at the ocean and
took in the fresh air from the sea, I began
to think,
“Where is God? What is He like? Could I
ever find Him?”
After that, I continued walking until I got
to Newcastle.
All I had in my wallet at that time was 5
dollars.

I then went to McDonald’s.
I bought a muffin and free coffee for 2
dollars and fifty cents.
After that, I took the bus back to
Merewether, for 2 dollars.
When I arrived at the house, my landlord
informed me that my Indonesian friends
had just called me.
They had invited me to another party.
So I went.
At the party, as I was about to leave, I
announced to my friends that I had to go
now.
I told them that I was going to a Catholic
worship service with my friend Winnie
which started at 5 p.m.
When I said that, one of the other students
at the party, Albert (he later became my
husband) said to me,
“You are going to church?
I’m going to a church tomorrow morning
as well.
There will be mostly students from
Newcastle University.
And the music is outstanding.
Would you like to come, too?”

I said, ‘Yes.’
Because at that time, I had started to
search for God again.
A day before, I had gone to see a movie
(‘The Horse Whisperer’).
And I had lost my wallet again.
I had lost my wallet before that already
several times.
So at that time, I was sad and didn’t know
what to do.
I HEAR THE GOSPEL OF JESUS’
FORGIVENESS
The next morning, I went to the meeting
with Albert and another student called
Ragnar (or Rangy) from Sweden.
During the service, I started to get quite
sleepy.
When I asked Rangy how he felt, Rangy
said that he felt sleepy also.
But I also felt something else.
For some reason, I felt that it was quite
shameful that I didn’t understand anything
going on at the meeting.
It was as if God spoke to me not to let this
day pass without knowing Him.

So when the service was over, I
approached Albert.
I asked him if he could talk to me about
God—which he did.
“What I was amazed about was that
Jesus offers us forgiveness of sins.”
Albert started with an introduction first.
About the‘0-point.’
But when he got to open the bible, I was
delighted.
And when he explained to me from John
chapter 3 that we need to be ‘born again,’
my heart jumped for joy.
Because this was the first time, it finally
made sense to me.
I was amazed by one thing.
Jesus offers us forgiveness of sins.
I hadn’t heard that before.
We don’t hear about this in Buddhism.
I had never heard and thought that you
could find forgiveness of sins.
So that surprised me.
I actually had some experience with
Christianity before.

As a teenager, my parents had sent me to a
Christian high school in Chiang Mai.
It is called ‘Dara High School.’
There I learned about God and Jesus.
I usually prayed to Buddha.
But if it was a difficult thing, I would pray
both to Buddha and Jesus.
Every year, at the end of the school year,
the school would hold a revival meeting.
And at the end of the meeting, there was
an altar call.
They called those students who wanted to
come to Jesus to the altar.
Every year, I had this longing to come to
Jesus in my heart.
But I didn’t.
Because I was afraid of my parents.
I thought that if they find out that I have
become a Christian, they might stop me
from going to that school.
My dad was not directly against
Christianity.
One day, he asked one of his customers if
he could get a bible.
And then he gave it to me.

My first bible.

So when I heard the gospel about Jesus on
that day, I was happy.
Because I could finally understand it.
On the next day, I went back to the
cinema.
Surprisingly, someone had found my
wallet and returned it to the box office.
Not 1 cent was missing.
Over the next week, almost every day,
I asked Albert to talk to me more about
Jesus.
And a week later, I got baptized, and I
received the Holy Spirit.
“Ever since, my walk with the Lord has
been exciting and full of adventure.”
Right after that, my sleeping problems
stopped.
Before that, I always had had difficulties
falling asleep. I would resort to playing
tapes to soothe me into sleep.
But after coming to Jesus, I didn’t need
that anymore.
And ever since my walk in the Lord has
been exciting.
And full of adventure. But that would be a
topic for another book.

11 SONIA AND HERRY,
MANADO, INDONESIA.
SONIA had been a Bible teacher
and evangelist at a particular large
denomination in Indonesia.
She had come from a Buddhist
background.
My good friends in Manado introduced
my wife and me to Sonia and her husband,
Herry.
To talk about the Holy Spirit.
Sonia had been at a bible school.
So she had been exposed to a lot of
biblical teachings.
I knew this.
So I made sure that I was basing my
arguments strictly on the exact word of
God.
Yet, after we had finished talking, Sonia
strongly rejected what I had said.
She belonged to a denomination that
practice baptizing by sprinkling people.

I must have also told her, “Why not get
baptized in the biblical pattern, by full
immersion?”
And we left it at that.
But something interesting happened.
A year later, we revisited our friends.
This time, in their hometown Palu, on
Sulawesi island.
And there, once again, we met Sonia and
her husband.
This time she was happy about our
coming and invited us to preach.
To the youth group of the fellowship, she
was part of, and co-pastoring at that time.
Our good friend, Valerie, a Ph.D. scholar,
helped to translate.
I felt led to preach the plain gospel to the
group because I could sense that they
were in the same place as the Ephesian
disciples.
At the end of the meeting, Sonia and
Herry came to us.
They wanted to get baptized.
One the next day, they then took us to a
beautiful stream and waterfall.
Interestingly, the place was called Vera

(truth).
We baptized them there.
And they both gloriously received the
Holy Spirit.
I was so touched by the Lord’s
faithfulness.
Glory to God!
Our friends Valerie and Dr. Henry’s story
is also quite interesting.

12 DR. HENRY,
NEWCASTLE,
AUSTRALIA.
DR. HENRY’s story is interesting.
His wife, Dr. Valerie, had received a
scholarship.
To do a Master’s and Ph.D. study at the
University of Newcastle in Australia.
So she and their 2 young children had
moved to Newcastle.
Ahead of Dr. Henry.
He was at this time, still in Paul,
Indonesia.
My wife’s friend, Linda, knew someone
who was living in the same house as Dr.
Valerie.
And one day, Linda and my wife went to
see Linda’s friend to preach the gospel to
her.
Dr. Valerie was in the house as well.
But she was in the kitchen—cooking.

She only overheard the conversation.
But interestingly, after my wife had
finished preaching the gospel, Dr. Valerie
wanted to get baptized.
She had only been sprinkled before.
And she hadn’t received the Holy Spirit
yet.
So, my wife and Linda then baptized Dr.
Valerie on the next day.
And Dr. Valerie gloriously received the
Holy Spirit.
About a week later, Dr. Valerie’s husband,
Dr. Henry, was scheduled to arrive in
Newcastle.
On the way to Australia, he had a stopover
in Bali.
And while he was there in Bali, on his
stop-over, he happened to see a baptism
by full immersion.
He later told us what he was thinking at
that time.
When he saw that baptism.
He said, “I was thinking, why are we not
baptizing like that?”
(By we, he meant the congregation that he
belonged to.)

When he arrived in Australia, his wife,
Dr. Valerie, arranged for him to hear the
gospel.
My wife preached again.
At first, he appeared to be a bit
apprehensive.
But then, to everyone’s surprise, he agreed
to get baptized by full immersion.
And he received the Holy Spirit even
before he entered the bathtub.
He had a glorious encounter as well and
also broke forth in tongues.
A few years later, we visited him in
Newcastle.
This time it was the other way around.
His wife was at that time in Indonesia.
And he was in Newcastle, with one of his
daughters Mandy.
Because he had received a scholarship
to do a Ph.D. study in chemistry, like his
wife before.
When we visited Dr. Henry in Newcastle,
we worship together one evening.
Dr. Henry plays the guitar.
And as we were worshipping, suddenly
the Holy Spirit came on Mandy—without

anyone laying hands on her.
She started to weep and had a profound
encounter with the Holy Spirit.
Did she speak in tongues?
Yes.
But it was more than that.
The Holy Spirit touched her deeply.
And then, on the next day, we all went
together to the ocean to baptize her.
What a wonderful experience!
Today, Mandy is strong in the Lord is
transforming into a world-changer.
Thank you Jesus!
Another testimony comes to my mind.

13 ANNA, PALU,
INDONESIA.
ONE time, we were in Palu on Sulawesi
island in Indonesia.
We had preached to one of Dr. Henry and
Dr. Valerie’s friends, Anna.
And she also wanted to get baptized.
I still remember as it was today.
We baptized Anna in the ocean.
The wind at that time was blowing
violently, and the waves were raging as we
entered the water.
We dunked Anna into the ocean.
When she came up from the water, it was
like an explosion from heaven that was
unleashed towards us.
The Holy Spirit violently fell on Anna,
and tongues of fire kept pouring forth
from her.
The Holy Spirit flowed through her
mightily, and she was also bursting forth
in a Spirit language (tongues) at the top of

her voice.
This is what it must have been on
Pentecost.
The word of God says that when the Holy
Spirit came, it was like a rushing mighty
wind.
In Acts 2:1-4:
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully
come, they were all with one accord in
one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from
heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and
it filled all the house where they were
sitting.
Then there appeared to them tongues,
as of fire, and one sat upon each of
them.
And they were all filled with the Holy
Spirit and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them
utterance.”
I believe we experienced something like
that on that day.
It was special.

14 TOLI, TOLI,
SULAWESI, INDONESIA.
ONE YEAR, Dr. Henry took us to see his
mother and other family members in Toli
Toli, where he had been brought up.
Toli Toli is an interesting place.
It’s a small coastal town on the Celebes
Sea in the north-west of Sulawesi.
My wife and I were received with extreme
hospitality.
We got the best room in the house.
We were treated with the best our hosts
had to offer.
We had our own private room.
Most of our other friends resorted to
sleeping on the bare floor in the living
room.
We were given fresh coconuts.
Next to the house were some tall coconut
trees. And one of the young men had to
climb up to get them for us.
We were treated with freshly caught tuna.

And so on.
What touched me was this.
Everyone was so happy to simply see each
other and be together.
On the second day, the whole family then
assembled in the living room to listen to
us.
We preached the simple gospel.
And almost all wanted to get baptized.
In the afternoon, we then went to the
beach.
And one-by-one, almost all family
members got baptized in the azure waters
of the Indian Ocean as the sun was setting.
And most also received the Holy Spirit.
The setting was so amazing.
It was against the backdrop of a beautiful
sunset.
All of our friend’s family members
belonged to a denomination where full
immersion is not practice.
And where people do not receive the Holy
Spirit, as we read about in the book of
Acts.
So why did they receive then?

Because they opened themselves up to
hear the gospel.
From someone who is sent to preach.
From someone who is filled with the Holy
Spirit.
That is the biblical pattern.
That is why Peter writes about in 1 Peter
1:12 when he talks about
“ ... those who have preached the gospel
to you BY THE HOLY SPIRIT SENT
DOWN FROM HEAVEN—things which
angels desire to look into.”
Angels do not have that privilege.
That’s why you will notice something in
the book of Acts.
No angel was ever allowed to preach the
gospel.
Nor did Jesus preach the gospel to people
after His resurrection.
All angels could do was to point people
to go to someone who was ordained to
preach.
This is what we see in the book of Acts.
Let us look at another testimony.

15 THE FATHER
OF A YOUNG GIRL
RECEIVES THE HOLY
SPIRIT IN A HOSPITAL
AISLE, CHIANG MAI,
THAILAND.
ON FEBRUARY 14, 2015, we’ve also
had an exciting experience.
The following passage is from one of our
testimonies on our previous website.
“Wow! The father of a baby receives the
Holy Spirit in a hospital aisle ... Thank
you Jesus!
Yesterday around 9 p.m., after a long day,
we were called to a private hospital.
The few-months-old baby of our sister-inlaw’s
sister had developed a rash of her
whole body.
She was red like a cooked lobster.

Peninnah checked the baby. While she did
that, I had a chance to talk to the baby’s
dad.
He told me that he (and his wife) were
Christians.
I then felt led to ask him if he had made
this experience called the baptism with the
Holy Spirit.
He said, ‘No,’ and I could sense that he
was very open to hear more.
So I talked to him for a few minutes about
why and how every believer today can
receive the Holy Spirit.
Then it was time to take the baby up to the
ward.
Peninnah suggested that I pray for the
baby, and the father agreed.
As the crowded lift was going up to the
7th floor, I had a chance to lay my hands
on the baby shortly and command the rash
to go.
When we reached the ward, the father
asked me if I was going to pray for him
(also).
I hadn’t expected this, but I said, ‘yes.’
We then sat down on a few chairs next to
the nurses’ station. I explained to him a

it more about receiving the Holy Spirit
and the accompanying sign of speaking in
other tongues.
Speaking in tongues is a sign that Jesus
said would follow ALL believers (Mark
16).
But there is also the gift of tongues that
doesn’t follow all believers.
So there is a difference between the sign
of speaking in tongues and the gift of
speaking in tongues.
The sign of speaking in tongues can’t be
interpreted, but the gift of tongues can.
Then we laid hands on him, and after a
few seconds, the Holy Spirit gloriously
fell on him in power, and he also began to
speak in tongues.
As we were speaking in tongues, I could
see some of the nurses next door curiously
trying to peek at us.
They didn’t know what was going on out
there.
But they were very polite and didn’t say
anything ...
The father of the baby was very happy and
said that this was a new experience for
him ...

Hallelujah!
By the way, the baby’s rash had also
already gone by the time she was given
medication. This morning (the next day),
the baby has already been discharged
from the hospital.
Wow!”
Jesus is so ready to baptize (immerse)
believers into the Holy Spirit.
It is so easy for believers to receive the
Holy Spirit if they only hear the right
message and are open to Jesus.

16 PI KEAW GETS NEW
BONES, CHIANG MAI,
THAILAND.
ONCE we baptized a Thai lady in her late
50s.
But she didn’t receive the Holy Spirit at
that time.
Nothing much in her life changed.
But then 6 months later, she was there
when we baptized someone.
And saw someone receiving the Holy
Spirit.
And at that time, she also was ready to
receive.
We took her to the basement of our
friend’s house and laid hands on her.
The Holy Spirit came on her.
She had an encounter with the power and
presence of the Holy Spirit.
And she also started to speak in
stammering lips and other tongues.

After that, things in her life began to
change.
Sometime later, she got healed from a
bone condition.
No one had laid hands on her.
But she testified that she had been praying
for this condition for some time diligently.
One hour in the Spirit (in tongues) per day
for 40 days.
Sometime later, she had a bone test done
at the school where she had previously
worked.
The test revealed that her knee bones
were like the knee bones of a 25-year-old
woman.
The physician was surprised by this.
He then asked her if she had taken a lot of
calcium supplements.
Or if she intakes a lot of calcium through
her diet.
She said, not at all.
She hadn’t consumed any milk products
or been on any particular diet.
It was all the work of God.
But all this happened after she received
the Holy Spirit.

Jesus talks about signs that follow those
who believe.
In Mark 16.
These signs start to follow people who
have received the Holy Spirit.
Then Mark 16 can become real for them:
“And He said to them, ‘Go into all
the world and preach the gospel to
every creature. He who believes and is
baptized will be saved; but he who does
not believe will be condemned.
And these signs will follow those who
believe: In My name they will cast
out demons; they will speak with new
tongues;
They will take up serpents; and if they
drink anything deadly, it will by no means
hurt them; they will lay hands on the
sick, and they will recover.’
So then, after the Lord had spoken to
them, He was received up into heaven,
and sat down at the right hand of
God. And they went out and preached
everywhere, the Lord working with them
and confirming the word through the
accompanying signs. ...” (Mark 16:15-20)

17 DANIEL RECEIVES
THE HOLY SPIRIT AMID
A CROWD, CANBERRA,
AUSTRALIA.
I REMEMBER a young guy, a student
from Perth, Australia.
Daniel.
We met him at a conference in Canberra,
Australia.
The conference lasted three days.
One the second day, Daniel spoke to me
about his issues.
How he was struggling with certain
personal issues in his life.
And how he didn’t seem to be able to get
rid of them.
It was about 11 o’clock at night.
At the time, we were celebrating a
birthday; actually, 2 birthdays (including
mine).

So Daniel and I sat in a car to have some
private space.
So that no one could listen to our
conversation.
I was so tired.
I listened to Daniel.
Then all I said was, “Look, have you
received the Holy Spirit yet?”
He hadn’t.
I said,
“Receive the Holy Spirit, and then the
Holy Spirit will help you deal with your
issues.”
I might have also shown him a few
scriptures.
But not more than that.
That was all that I said.
The next day, the conference ended.
All the people had already stood up and
were ready to make their way to the car
park.
Suddenly, Daniel was in front of me.
He asked me if I could pray for him.
I said,

“Alright. Let’s get on our knees, right
here. I will lay hands on you, and you are
going to receive the Holy Spirit.”
That’s what I then did.
And Daniel received a touch from God,
and the Holy Spirit right there, amid the
crowd.
Among people, on the way out from a
conference.
God knows the heart.
If people’s heart is right, and they believe
rightly, they receive the Holy Spirit easily.

18 RANGY FROM
SWEDEN RECEIVES THE
HOLY SPIRIT IN THE
ICY-COLD WATERS OF
THE PACIFIC OCEAN AT
11 P.M. IN NEWCASTLE,
AUSTRALIA.
I HAVE seen many people who simply
believed the gospel.
They simply responded to it.
They simply got baptized in water.
And then they gloriously received the
Holy Spirit.
The presence of the Holy Spirit comes on
them.
And when they are filled with the Holy
Spirit, they also begin to speak in tongues.
Even shout in tongues.

And the fire of the Holy Spirit is there.
Our brother Ragnar (Rangy) from Sweden
comes to mind.
We have talked to him already in chapter
10.
He was the student I also invited to come
to the fellowship alongside Dr. Peninnah
(who later would then become my wife).
This story has a good ending also.
Rangy also believed.
And we baptized him.
One Australian winter evening at 11 p.m.,
in the icy-cold waters of the Pacific ocean.
But when the fire of the Holy Spirit came,
this all changed.
When the Holy Spirit came on him, and
the Holy Spirit’s fire enveloped us, we
couldn’t feel the icy cold water anymore.
It was as if we were standing in a warm
bathtub.
And yes, Rangy also started to speak in
tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
This is what I also always anticipate.
Jesus is wonderful.

19 WARREN,
CUNNAMULLA,
AUSTRALIA (2).
SO HOW how did the story of Warren in
Cunnamulla end?
Do you remember him? (See CHAPTER 1:
WARREN, CUNNAMULLA, AUSTRALIA (1)).
Warren had been eager to speak in
tongues.
Because he had been part of a prayer
group where everybody spoke in tongues.
Warren wanted to receive the gift of
tongues.
He then invited me to expound the word
of God to him concerning receiving the
Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues.
But what I told him was this.
“You don’t need the gift of tongues.
You first need to receive the Holy Spirit.
And then, you will be automatically also
speaking in tongues.”

Warren then decided to get baptized also.
He felt that he had now clearly understood
the gospel.
This had not been the case before when he
got baptized the first time.
So, on the same day, in the afternoon, we
went back to the waterhole.
To that same waterhole where he had just
been baptizing two ladies the day before.
After his confession of faith, I then
baptized Warren into the murky brown
waters of the Warrego River.
As soon as he came up from the water, it
was like heaven had parted.
And he had a powerful encounter with the
presence and glory of the Holy Spirit.
Did he speak in tongues as well?
Yes, tongues began to gush forth from
him.
Almost immediately as soon as he had
come out of the water.
To me, those tongues sounded like perfect
(fluent) Hebrew.
Wonderful Jesus!
It is one thing to talk about Jesus, and it is
another thing to experience Jesus.

Something amazed me about Warren.
That he was so humble.
He didn’t try to refer to his experience of
walking with the Lord.
He simply acted on the word and humbled
himself by getting re-baptized (since he
had now fully understood the gospel).
And the Lord responded to that by
wonderfully filling Warren with the Holy
Spirit.
God is so faithful.
He will always do what He promised to
do.
So this is His promise for us today, if we
have heard and believed the gospel.
This is how we can respond to the gospel.
This is what Peter told the people on
the day of Pentecost who had heard and
believed the gospel, and they asked Peter,
“What shall we do?”
This is what Peter said to them,
“Repent, and let every one of you be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins; and you shall
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

your children, and to all who are afar off,
AS MANY AS THE LORD OUR GOD

“believed” and “they were baptized.” But they
still hadn’t received the Holy Spirit at that point.
So then Peter and John came and “prayed for
them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit.”
Whichever position you are in—your time
to receive Holy Spirit has come!

From a strictly biblical perspective, the
answer is straightforward.
‘Yes and No.’
Everybody who has received the Holy Spirit
speaks in tongues as a sign.
But not everybody also operates in the gift
of tongues.
In other words, in the bible, we find two
types of speaking in tongues.
The accompanying sign of speaking in

1 A dugout is a cave-like building that is carved into a
hill. In Coober Pedy, there are many sandstone hills. The
sandstone is soft enough to be excavated but also strong
enough to hold up the structure of these underground
caves. Sandstone is also an excellent isolation material.
The temperature inside such a dugout is at a constant
20-24 degrees Celcius.
2 Sometimes people receive the Holy Spirit and begin
to speak in what the bible calls, ‘stammering lips’
(Isaiah 28:11-12, 1 Corinthians 11:21). They have already
received the Holy Spirit but do not yet flow in a full
tongue.
