Chin. The team, despite its members coming
from different disciplines, is united by a
common passion for writing and literature. It
received impressive numbers of high-quality
submissions from College members in the
form of poems, short stories, academic
pieces, drawings and paintings. It was a joy
editing this amazing work, and very hard to
decide which pieces there was no space
for. When the new theme is revealed in
Michaelmas, we urge everyone to submit
contributions to the next Romulus.
Squash
by Ravinda Gunaratne
The Club has had a great
year and, despite losing a
couple of top players after graduation,
it managed to field two teams of
five in the college leagues. Despite
an early Cuppers exit, the first team
gained promotion to the top League in
Michaelmas, only to be demoted again
after a tough Hilary. But with many of
our new players staying on, we hope
to mount a fresh challenge next year.
Running
by Emily Warner
The Club has enjoyed another
successful year, building on the momentum
created by Tom Carruthers during his time
as President 2016–18. We have continued
to meet twice a week for a social run and
intervals session: the company of other
Wolfson runners was particularly welcome
during the dark winter evenings.
Four members ran in the Oxford halfmarathon:
Jon Connolly, Andreas Lauritzen,
Kevin Schlegel and Lorel Scriven. We also
entered a mixed team in the Teddy Hall
Relays: Tom Carruthers, Peter Guevera, Emily
Warner and Kim Fuellenbach. We were
pleased to come tenth in our category, as
the second-fastest mixed college team, with
a strong run by Tom giving us our fastest leg.
The Club continues to welcome runners of
all abilities, and aims at providing a friendly
and sociable environment for everyone to
enjoy running. We have enjoyed exploring
off-road routes around the Wolfson
Meadows and in Port Meadow, and our pub
runs have proved particularly popular. If you
haven’t joined us already, then next year is
your chance to get running.
Tennis
by Thomas Chen
The Club welcomes
beginners to the sport
as well as advanced players, and
regular players found Wolfson’s two
courts remained in great condition
throughout the year. As in previous
years, the Club has organised weekly
subsidised coaching sessions by a
professional coach, an opportunity
which has attracted many new
members. A relatively small group of
players participated in the University
tennis league, where we play in the
third division. We had some successes,
and are currently in third position.
Ultimate Frisbee
by Edward Miller
The University Ultimate
Frisbee league is a weekly
competition between
colleges culminating in a single-day
‘Cuppers’ in May. This year Wolfson
combined with St Anne’s and did
respectably, our team finishing fourth
out of ten.
