or-treating with their parents all round the
College, including the President’s house,
and then finished the evening with a pizza
party. We held a Winter Party in December,
with cakes and teas. In the cold and dark of
January we organised a movie afternoon in
the TV room with popcorn. We also enjoyed
a potluck lunch in March.
One of the highlights of this term’s events
was the children’s art event in February,
organised by Theresa Hofer and Charlotte
Kirchhelle. All the children who attended
contributed to the final masterpieces, which
were also displayed in the Hall. The second
children’s art event was held during the
Cherwell Day Summer Party in June. In June
we also took advantage of the nice weather,
organising a Sports Day / Picnic in the sports
field, for families to enjoy running, jumping,
and playing with kites, Frisbees and bubbles,
or simply lying down under the blue sky.
The Society has much appreciated the
support of the College, which has continued
to be very family-friendly. Early this academic
year, we held a meeting with the President
and Home Bursar to discuss the needs of
families, which updated the guidelines for
families in College. In June, at the initiative
of Etienne Hanelt, the College held its first
family-friendly formal dinner, which gave
some families with small children their
first chance of attending a formal dinner.
Moreover, a new Family Room will open
shortly, where members and their families
can feel at home and socialise. The Society
will continue its work of making College
members with families feel welcome and
part of the Wolfson community.
Football Club
by Hamish Couper
The Wolfson / St Cross football
club had a successful season
with more than forty players taking part,
over half of them new freshman players.
The first team maintained its position in the
MCR first division, ending up in fifth place,
12 points off the title. Top goal scorer was
Hamish Couper, helped by a second-half
hat trick against Keble. We also had a good
Cuppers run, getting to the semi-finals
which we lost in a tight match (0–1) against
Corpus / Linacre. We only need two or
three new players in key positions next year,
to compete for the league and cup titles.
The second team had a successful first
season in its arrangement with Corpus /
Linacre which will continue next year, thanks
to our good relations with them despite
being beaten by them in Cuppers. The team
also finished in fifth place in the MCR third
division, 9 points above the drop and only 4
points off promotion, which promises well
for the future.
Wolfson / St Cross also ventured into Futsal,
coming third in the inaugural league, and
making the semi-final of Cuppers before
another tight 0–1 loss, this time to St Hugh’s
MCR. Player of the Season was Basil Nelis
for the second team, and Ilo Zak for the first.
Let me thank Matthew Mckernan and Elliot
Abbott for their joint-captaincy this year, and
wish Eoin Finnegan and Youssuf Saleh the
best of luck as they take over the mantle of
captains.
