Khrzhanovsky
Andrey Khrzhanovsky is a celebrated film director,
screenwriter, producer and also a teacher. He was
born on November 30, 1939 in Moscow. In 1962, he
graduated from the VGIK (workshop of L. Kuleshov).
In 1964, Khrzhanovsky came to the Soyuzmultfilm
film studio, where he shot his debut film “Once Upon
a Time There was Kozyavin”. The director’s work is
characterized by a constant interest in the history of
Russian and world culture, as well as the subtlety and
expressiveness of plastic forms. Khrzhanovsky’s work
has a special place for the Pushkin theme. Five films
of the Pushkiniana series opened up completely new
possibilities of animating classical literature. Honored
art worker of the Russian Federation (1992), two-time
winner of the State Prize of Russia, Khrzhanovsky is
also a laureate of many international festivals. Since
1982, he has taught animation film directing at the
Higher Courses of Screenwriters and Directors. In
1993, he founded the SHAR school-studio together
with E. Nazarov, Yu. Norshtein, and F. Khitruk. He is the
chairman of the founding board and the artistic director.
He is also a member of the Russian Academy
of Cinema Arts “Nika”.
