Excited for 2021 summer camp

March 1, 2021

After a smaller summer camp last year due

to the pandemic, we are so excited for this

summer! Last year’s camp went extremely

well and was a huge success thanks to

the comprehensive protocols we had in

place and the hard work of our staff. Once

again our top priority this year will be the

health and safety of all campers, staff and

community members while still enjoying

all the fun that summer camp brings!

As of right now, the JCC’s 2021

summer camp will

again feature limited

HIGHLIGHTS...

capacity and enhanced

health and safety

measures due to

current regulations.

We follow all CDC

and state/local

coronavirus guidelines

in order to run camp

in the safest way

possible. Similar to

last year, here’s an overview of this year’s

JCC Camp Romano health and safety

protocols.

• Small group sizes.

• No commingling of camp groups.

• Campers age 2 and older must wear a

mask while indoors. Accommodations

will be made based on each child’s

abilities.

• Curbside drop-off and pick-up of

campers.

• Early care, late care and busing will not

be offered this summer.

Small groups with no commingling.

Masks must be worn indoors.

Curbside drop-off and pick-up.

No early care, late care or busing.

More offsite specialty camps and

field trips planned.

• More offsite Specialty Camps added

this summer as well as limited field

trips to public places.

• Easily accessible outdoor and indoor

hand washing stations will be available.

• Individual baskets will be provided to

campers onsite to keep their belongings

together yet separate from others.

• We hope to again utilize a large outdoor

tent to accommodate multiple groups

and social distancing.

Should CDC and

state/local guidelines

loosen up before

or during summer

camp, we will look to

update our protocols

accordingly and may

even be able to offer

additional camp

programming options.

We will keep you

updated and post the latest developments

on our website and Facebook page.

We hope you’re as excited as we are

about bringing campers back to the JCC

this summer. Now more than ever children

need social interaction with peers for their

continued wellbeing and development. We

look forward to holding another fun, safe

and memorable summer camp this year!

Specialty Camps

make adjustments this year due to the coronavirus pandemic,

we’re still offering a good variety of fun and engaging camps.

Choose from arts, dance, cheerleading, gaming, sports, rocketry and more! Descriptions for

all of this year’s Specialty Camps start below.

In addition to each camp’s special focus area, campers participate in daily Red Cross swim

instruction and recreational swimming. Some swim times may be limited due to schedules

and possible travel times. A typical Specialty Camp day includes 30 minutes of instructional

swim, 45 minutes of recreational swimming and 2–4 hours of dedicated time in the specialty

activity. After registering, you will receive detailed camp-specific information.

Think of our Nitzanim Day Camp as your

traditional, all around summer day camp

experience. It offers a little something for

everyone and is ideally suited for first-time

campers and younger campers who want to

experience an exciting variety of activities.

It is many of the specialty camps all rolled

into one with an emphasis on weekly themes.

Specialists lead activities in arts and crafts,

sports and games, drama and nature.

Daily Red Cross instructional and recreational

swimming and a weekly Shabbat celebration

round out some of Nitzanim’s activities. One

day each week is supplemented with a field

day with themed activities. Fridays are known

as “Super Fridays” where campers create

their own schedules and choose between

traditional activities (sports, arts) and alternative

activities (slip-and-slide, scavenger

hunts, wacky water fun and more).

Because of continued group-size limits due

to the coronavirus pandemic, each Nitzanim

group will have a maximum of 15 campers.

Should state/local guidance on group sizes

change, we will look to make adjustments

accordingly.

the appropriate fees.

If you would like to withdraw or decrease your schedule for camp you must do so in writing by the following dates.

• April 23 – Deadline to withdraw or decrease program with deposit returned.

• May 21 – Deadline to withdraw or decrease program; deposit is now non-refundable, balance minus deposit will be

planned well in advance.

Being a JCC of Syracuse member is not a requirement to attend camp. However, a JCC membership affords you many benefits,

including significantly reduced camp tuition and a pool membership. Please refer to the Membership Section starting on p. 16

for prices and benefits offered with our Full-Facility (Fitness) and Non-Fitness membership options.

PLEASE NOTE: All memberships are a 12 month commitment.

Medical Exam

A medical exam within

one year of the start of

camp is required for every

new camper. Absolutely

no exceptions can be

allowed. Campers presently

enrolled in our Jerome & Phyllis Charney Early

Childhood Development Program (ECDP)

school-year program must have an exam on file

that is current (less than 1-year-old) or provide

an updated one. Exam documentation is

required on an approved NYS Office of Children

and Family Service form that will be sent to

each camper after their registration has been

processed.

General information

Staff

Experienced early childhood professionals from

our school-year program and carefully selected

college students staff our camp groups. These

skilled, trained counselors care about children

and offer guidance, support, encouragement,

enthusiasm and love.

Schedule

Our camp activity schedules are based on a

five-day week. To accommodate varying family

needs, we allow campers to choose to join

us for fewer days in a week on Tuesday and

Thursday or Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Campers who choose these lesser time options

will get to experience a wide variety, but not all,

of the activities summer camp offers. Tenokia

have the extended full-day option only.

Important pick-up information for

9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. campers: If you also have

children in the JCC’s School-Age Camp, please

pick up your ECDP camper first by 3:45 p.m.

Groups

Children are placed according to chronological

age so that we can offer a developmentally

appropriate and safe program. Absolutely no

exceptions are allowed. All programs are held at

the JCC. Each group has their own individual,

air-conditioned, brightly lit and developmentally

equipped room to utilize as their special indoor

home base.

Following our licensing policies, our five unique

Early Childhood Camps are:

• Tenokia, meaning “nursery,” is for campers

who will be 6-weeks-old after 6/28/21. Our

youngest campers are provided with an

environment rich in language, active play

and a lot of love!

• K’Ton Ton, meaning “little ones,” is for

campers 18-months-old by 6/28/21. Our

toddler group begins to experience camp

with age-appropriate activities certain to

make any child smile. Small groups allow

our staff to give each child the time and

attention busy toddlers need.

• Chaverim, meaning “friends,” is for

campers who will be 3-years-old by 6/28/21.

Our three-year-old group begins to realize

what the camp experience is and love the

adventure and exploration.

• Yeladim, meaning “children,” is for campers

who will be 4-years-old by 6/28/21. Our

Yeladim campers are exposed to very busy,

active days full of a wide range of activities.

• Gesher, meaning “bridge,” is for campers

who will be entering kindergarten in the

fall. Gesher camp is jam packed full of

fun. Campers will enjoy free swim time

in the afternoon. Gesher Campers will

be prepared to join the big kid side the

following year.

Activities

Throughout the summer children will be

engaged in a variety of activities including

outdoor time, art, sensory experiences, music

and movement, stories, free play and more!

In addition, Camp K’Ton Ton, Chaverim

and Yeladim will have a daily nap/quiet time

scheduled. Children in classrooms where

everyone is over 18 months will participate daily

in Red Cross Learn-to-Swim lessons. Camp

Gesher also has a daily free swim scheduled!

Campers of all ages will have activities related
