Graduation

The OHS Academic Challenge team (formerly

WYSE) took first place in the DACC

Regional, allowing the team to advance to

Sectional. OHS competes in Division 700.

For a full listing of individual results, look

on page 2.

This year’s event had some differences (besides

the name change) from previous competitions.

Due to pandemic restrictions, each

team competed virtually on their own time

over the course of a week.

By winning the Regional, the Comets will

now advance to the Sectional competition.

The time, date and format of the Sectional has

not been released yet.

The members of the team are Ricci Arcay,

Titus Berner, Jalynn Bugaj, Aaliyah Denius,

Travis Goodner, Madelyn Miller, Allie Morris,

Grant Powell, Carlie Reitz, Kalie Tison, and

Brevin Wells.

Wienke wins

Golden Ruler

Mrs. Sandi Wienke has been

named the recipient of the 2021

Golden Ruler Award for OHS.

Normally Wienke would be a

guest of the district at the annual

Golden Ruler banquet, but due to

pandemic restrictions it will not

be held this year.

Wienke was selected by the

other staff members for her dedication

to the students of OHS.

Wienke serves OHS as the library

aide, but fills a variety of

tasks as they are needed throughout

the year.

“Sandi has been so valuable to

OHS, especially this year,” said

principal Tim Lee. “She is willing

to jump in and fill whatever opening

there might be that day.”

Wienke’s job has evolved over

the years and now finds that technology

issues take up much more

of her time than actual books.

This is Wienke’s seventh year

Juniors to take SAT on April 13

The SAT exam will be given to

all juniors on Tuesday, April 13.

This is the third year the state of Illinois

has used the SAT as their state

mandated assessment.

Students will be assessed in reading,

writing, language, and math.

The test is given at no cost to students

and they will be able to use

their scores for college admission,

at OHS and 18th in the Oakwood

district.

Each school in Vermilion

County gets to choose one winner

from its staff each year.

Other recent winners of the

award for OHS have been:

2020 -- Jesse Johnson

2019 -- Teresa Cooper

2018 -- Shannan Ford

2017 -- Eric Fenton

2016 -- Laura Head

2015 -- Katie McNamara

Spring conferences

on March 24 and 25

OHS will hold parent-teacher conferences on March

24 and 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. We hope you will take advantage

of the opportunity and schedule appointments

with one or all of your student’s teachers.

This year’s conferences will be held on Wednesday

and Thursday. There is no school on March 26.

Hopefully, the conference will allow teachers and

parents to discuss the progress of their student. At this

time, you will be able to voice any concern you might

have about your child’s welfare.

To schedule a meeting closer to conference time,

please go to our website www.oakwood76.org.

Parents will be able to schedule conferences starting

sometime in March.

If a teacher wishes to schedule a conference with

you, you will be notified.

All conferences will be remote by phone. Teachers

will call you at your scheduled time with the number

that we have listed in TeacherEase. Now would be a

good time to confirm all TeacherEase information is

current. If you need to make changes, please call the

office.

If you have questions, please call the office 217-354-

2358.
