Batavia Lodge 197 Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) was instituted circa 1880, in a hall on Ellicott Street, the former St. James Church. This was approximately where the present Ponderosa Restaurant is located - thence to the second of the First National Bank Building and then to the basement of the National Farm and Home Center on East Main Street. It consolidated with the East Pembroke Lodge 194 IOOF in 1956. Majestic Lodge 754 IOOF formed from Batavia Lodge 197 IOOF in about 1896 having their first lodge in a large wooden building opposite Jackson Street on the old Alva Place, vacated by the YMCA. From there they moved to the Massey-Harris Office Building on

They surrendered their charter in 1965. The Eureka Encampment Lodge IOOF for many years met in the Batavia Lodge 197 IOOF surrendered their charter in 1937. That was the end of the IOOF in Batavia. Mr. Hilchey Lodge 1997 IOOF instills (sic) in August 1868. Majestic Lodge 754 IOOF installed in June 1896. Richmond Encampment 67 Patriots Militant instituted.
