The new Intouro from Mercedes-Benz is the epitome
of efficiency – and once again manifests its
pioneering position as a cost-conscious, versatile
and reliable link between town and country.
The Intouro is suitable for a variety of uses.
In addition to the classic interurban service, this
includes, for example, use as a shuttle bus, as a
bus for transporting staff within a plant or factory
and, depending on the country, also as a school
bus. Due to its wide range of features, the new Intouro
is also suitable for excursions and short trips.

The new Intouro’s design
and features.
The Intouro impresses with equipment that is more than
suitable for everyday use. With an interior headroom
of more than two metres to the front of the rear axle,
there is plenty of space for standing passengers in
regular service. The exterior and interior design are as
straightforward as they are distinctive. The interurban
bus is available in a basic version or, optionally, in the
premium version with design package.

Cockpit Basic
The driver’s area is designed along ergonomic principles. The Cockpit Basic has a
multifunction steering wheel and all the instruments are clearly arranged and
easily accessible without changing the seating position. The multifunction steering
wheel and the high-resolution TFT colour display with intuitive stack-and-cards menu
simplify work in the cockpit behind the wheel.
Interior
The passenger compartment of the new Intouro has a modular design, with
individual versions ranging from strictly cost-oriented interurban buses to
comfortable equipment for excursions. The seats are arranged on platforms and
can be moved up to the front of the rear axle without any incline, while numerous
convenience extras such as TravelStar Eco seating or service sets with nozzle
ventilation and reading lights are available for upmarket leisure travel.
Exterior
The new Intouro’s body reflects the clear design language – from the steeply rising
windscreen and the brand-typical unit of grille and headlights to the straight side
walls. These are almost seamlessly smooth and, like the rear end, have a strictly
functional shape – which is visible, for example, on the engine flap without ventilation
slits. Bumper corners and the door 1, which is made of sheet metal in the lower area,
ensure ease of repair.

State-of-the-art safety standards are a matter of course in Mercedes-Benz buses
and coaches – it was not just a coincidence that the anti-lock braking system (ABS)
was first installed in a starred vehicle. Ongoing new and improved safety systems
continually guarantee optimum protection for drivers, passengers and other road users.
To ensure that you always feel safe and protected, our buses and coaches always
have the latest revolutionary technologies on board.

Camera
The world premiere in the Intouro:
Active Brake Assist 5.
ABA 5 supports the driver by automatically initiating emergency braking if there
is a risk of a rear-end collision with vehicles in front or with stationary obstacles.
It also detects moving or stationary persons in front of the vehicle. The system
reacts to this with an acoustic and visual warning to the driver and simultaneous
partial or full braking.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)
The Electronic Stability Program significantly reduces
the risk of skidding by, for example, counteracting
the vehicle’s swerving through targeted braking of
individual wheels.
Sideguard Assist
Makes turning even safer: Sideguard Assist warns
the driver of moving or stationary objects next to the
vehicle – and thus also protects other road users.
Electronic Braking Assist (BAS)
By constantly comparing the data, the electronic
brake assist system immediately detects if the speed
at which the brake pedal is pressed suddenly exceeds
the usual level, and in such situations automatically
boosts the maximum braking power to within fractions
of a second. This significantly shortens the stopping
distance of the bus.
Bi-xenon headlamps

Compared with halogen headlamps, bi-xenon
headlamps mean better illumination of the road surface
with less energy consumption and a longer life.

Extra safety.
Lane Assist (SPA)
Lane Assist SPA detects when the vehicle
unintentionally leaves a marked lane. If it
crosses the markings, the driver is warned by
a clear vibration through the driver’s seat.

accidents – and maximise the safety of
your passengers.
Rain-light sensor
The rain sensor and automatic driving light are
assist systems that activate automated
functions by means of a sensor system and
relieve the driver of routine tasks.
AquaBlade® windscreen wipers
The AquaBlade® windscreen wipers ensure
optimum visibility at all times and, thanks to their
ergonomic design, minimise both driving noise
and fuel consumption.
Active Brake Assist 5 (ABA 5)
The world premiere in the new Intouro: Active
Brake Assist 5 is the first emergency braking
assist system for buses and coaches that can
react to pedestrians with emergency braking.

Economic efficiency pays off.
The new Intouro has built-in cost awareness – for good
reason. The Operation, maintenance and possible repairs
are associated with expenses. Over a third of the costs
incurred can and should be actively influenced. Durable
high-tech components, an optimised vehicle platform and
the new Driver Score assist system make the new Intouro
a prime example of economic efficiency.
Fuel consumption
The drive is based on tried and tested economical
components. All engines, axles and gearboxes carry the
star; all drive components are perfectly matched. Thanks
to a weight reduction of about 300 kg and improved
aerodynamics, fuel savings of up to 3% can be achieved.

OM 936 and OM 470 engines
The new Intouro is notable for its excellent
price/performance ratio and high overall economic
efficiency, which ensures remarkable advantages
on the market. The most important figures
for total operating costs include purchase price,
consumption, maintenance and repair costs. The
Intouro stands out in all categories and meets the
requirements of a cost-conscious interurban bus.
The new Driver Score assist system offers the driver
important support. The driver’s driving style can be
continuously optimised with practical messages in the
display. The system gives scores in four categories –
Acceleration, Braking, Smoothness of Drive, Coasting.
Also relevant is information on the vehicle status, such
as low levels of fuel, AdBlue or engine oil.
The OM 470 from Mercedes-Benz is powerful and
high-torque and meets the highest demands in terms
of environmental friendliness. Thanks to intelligent
technology, it is stronger and significantly more
economical. The OM 936 series heralded a new era in
compact commercial vehicle diesel engines. The use of
modern, high-strength materials opens up unimagined
performance dimensions.

Electronic vehicle components (e.g. Engine Control Unit) contain data storage for vehicle technical data, including but not limited to Diagnostic
Trouble Codes in the event of a malfunction, vehicle speed, braking force, or operating conditions of the Restraint System and Driver Assistance
Systems in case of an accident (no audio and no video data recording). This data is either stored as a volatile, e.g. Diagnostic Trouble Codes, over
a short period of time (a few seconds only) e.g. in case of an accident or in aggregated form, e.g. for component load evaluation. The data can be
read using interfaces connected to the vehicle. Trained technicians can process and utilise the data to diagnose and repair possible malfunctions.
The manufacturer can use the data to analyse and improve vehicle functions. When requested by the customer, technical data can form the basis
of additional optional services. In general, data from the vehicle is transferred to the manufacturer or a third party only where legally allowed, or
based on a contractual customer consent in accordance with data protection laws. Further information regarding storage of vehicle technical data
is provided in the vehicle owner’s manual. Mercedes-Benz Buses and Coaches naturally handles customer data confidentially.
