Graduation is planned for May 22

OHS is moving forward with tentative

plans for an outdoor graduation

on the football field on May 22

with May 23 as a rain date.

There are no definite plans at this

time as the administration will adjust

based upon the pandemic requirements

at the time.

Last year’s graduation format of

a recorded video is still an option

but the administration would prefer

a one-time event if possible.

As we get more information from

the Vermilion County Health Department

we will adjust the plans.

The administration’s goal is to allow

as many people as safely possible

to be able to see the graduation

of the class of 2021. By using

the football field, we will be outside

and we will have more room to

spread out. We also hope to use the

new cameras installed on the football

field to live stream the event.

Student Council to host second blood drive

The OHS Student

Council will be hosting

another Blood Drive in

February.

The drive will be held

from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45

p.m. on Sat., Feb., 20 in

team will be competing this year, but in a virtual

fashion.

Due to COVID restrictions both of the squads will

work from remote locations as they compete against

their opponents.

The Academic Challenge (formerly WYSE) participated

in the Regional on Wednesday and the Scholastic

Bowl team opened their season on Thursday.

The Scholastic Bowl team will have a VVC match

every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for the rest of February.

They will also have an in-person Regional on March 8

with a Sectional to follow.

The Academic Challenge team will hear their results

on Monday as the competing schools could participate

any day this week.

Spring conferences

on March 24 and 25

OHS will hold parent-teacher conferences on March

24 and 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. We hope you will take advantage

of the opportunity and schedule appointments

with one or all of your student’s teachers.

This year’s conferences will be held on Wednesday

and Thursday. There is no school on March 26.

Hopefully, the conference will allow teachers and

parents to discuss the progress of their student. At this

time, you will be able to voice any concern you might

have about your child’s welfare.

To schedule a meeting closer to conference time,

please go to our website www.oakwood76.org.

Parents will be able to schedule conferences starting

sometime in March.

If a teacher wishes to schedule a conference with

you, you will be notified.

All conferences will be remote by phone. Teachers

will call you at your scheduled time with the number

that we have listed in TeacherEase. Now would be a

good time to confirm all TeacherEase information is

current. If you need to make changes, please call the

office.

If you have questions, please call the office 217-354-

2358.

Business Concepts class make T-shirts

to learn about managing a company

The Business Tech Concepts class had a little fun applying their

new knowledge to a practical use with a T-shirt project in December

and January.

“The Business Tech Concepts classes have been busy studying

about starting and managing a

business as well as many different

career choices,” said teacher Mrs.

Amy Brant. “As a reward for the

hard work they put into their semester

final papers, they each got

to design their own T-shirts.”

Besides creating the designs,

they were allowed to print them

on T-shirt transfers then press the

transfers on to T-shirts.

Mrs. Sandi Wienke helped with

the project as it was completed in

the library during their class times

earlier in the week prior to semester

finals. A few of our fully remote students were able to complete

their projects at the end of January.

“The students enjoyed designing their T-shirts but had even more

fun and were amazed with the process of printing and pressing the

transfers onto the T-shirts,” said

Brant.

For the assignment, the students

had to create a five-page paper on

marketing themselves to a company

for a

certain

c a r e e r

position

and a

f i v e -

page resume

packet.

The students were able to use the ink jet

printer and a Cricut that was purchased for

the high school by the district.
