Clinical Feature 1. Decay is noted on the distal surface of the right mandibular 2 nd bicuspid (Fig. 2). 2. The decay is accessed and removed with the Great White #2 bur (SSWhite) (Fig. 3). 3. The conservative cavity preparation is complete. The tooth is matrixed and subsequently wedged (Fig. 4). 4. The preparation is bonded with a 7 th generation adhesive (Fig. 5). 5. The bonding agent is light-cured with the Fusion 5 (Dentlight) (Fig. 6). 6. The cavity is restored with composite resin as the interproximal contact is made with the CCI (Contact Curing Instrument, Hu-Friedy) (Fig. 7). 7. The occlusal surface is pre-shaped with the “Duckhead” instrument (Hu-Friedy) prior to curing of the surface layer (Fig. 8). 8. Final surface polishing (Fig. 9). 9. About the author Dr. George Freedman is a founder and past president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a co-founder of the Canadian Academy for Esthetic Dentistry and the International Academy for Dental Facial Aesthetics, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry. He is a Professor and Program Director, BPP University, London, UK, MClinDent programme in Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry and Adjunct Professor at Western University (California). His most recent textbook is “Contemporary Esthetic Dentistry (Elsevier). He is the author or co-author of 14 textbooks, more than 800 dental articles, and numerous webinars and a Team Member of REALITY. Dr Freedman received the Irwin Smigel Prize in Aesthetic Dentistry (NYU College of Dentistry). He lectures internationally on cementfree implant restoration, dental aesthetics, adhesion, composites, implants, 3D printing, and porcelain veneers and crowns. A graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Dr. Freedman is a Regent and Fellow of the International Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics and maintains a private practice limited to Aesthetic Dentistry in Toronto, Canada.
