Reinventing the wheel
With modern dental facilities and the
adoption of the latest dental innovations, Q
& M offers a comprehensive range of primary
care dental services as well as specialist
services.
“We started using CEREC back in 2009. So,
we have more than 10 years of experience,”
said Dr. Ng.
In fact, the group produces its own zirconia
blocks to be compatible with any milling
machine. This is in addition to developing
their own multi-plug software to sync across
other software so as to achieve smooth
integration across all platforms in the clinics.
“Quan Min is made up of a group of key
shareholders collectively owning about 57%
of the Group’s shares,” revealed Dr. Ng.
From the start, Dr. Ng already had a vision
to unite a group of dentists under one
roof to form the largest dental network in
Singapore.
He started to expand organically in
Singapore and Malaysia before embarking
on the IPO in 2009.
With the proceeds, attempts were made
to enter China, in cities such as Beijing
and Nanjing. It was not until 2013 when
Shenyang-based Dr. Shao Yongxin reached
out that Q & M discovered the northeastern
province. At that time, Dr. Shao
was a hospital director and owner of a
dental company, Aoxin. And together, they
established Aoxin Q & M Dental Group,
managing dental hospitals and polyclinics
in 18 locations. These dental centres are
equipped with the latest technology such as
cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)
scanners, intraoral scanners and CEREC,
which are supported by their own dental
laboratories. The dental centres also serve
as a teaching base for dentistry students of
Jinzhou Medical University.

“Each annual batch of 30 undergraduates,
30 nurses, and 20 laboratory technicians
will provide a ready talent pool to sustain
Aoxin Q & M’s expansion plan, allowing it
to grow organically,” explained Dr. Ng. “We
regularly have exchange programmes for
students, both in Singapore and China, to
sharpen their skills.”

“This will be the first of its kind in Singapore.
And if it works for us, I’m sure it’ll work for
others too,” Dr. Ng revealed.
His support for artificial intelligence is
also seen in Q & M’s usage to determine
the vitality of a tooth; whether it is still
sound and can be saved with a root canal
treatment, or if it is beyond saving, in which
case implant would be a better option.
A dentist who has the patient’s best interests
at heart will allow A.I. to help find the correct
and most ethical dental treatment plan, he
said.
Grooming generations to come
Fully equipped with the latest in dental
technology, Q & M is a reflection of Dr. Ng’s
strong belief in innovation. With this strong
belief, he founded Q & M College of Dentistry,
the first private dental school in Singapore
to provide a platform for dentists to upgrade
their skills and learn best practices in
dentistry.
He believes a solid education is crucial as
it helps novice dentists to build confidence
under the guidance of an experienced
dentist while performing dental procedures.
