Chanel and other luxury businesses and its almost unbelievable
size of 30,000 square meters - all this makes the Haus Cumber-
land a really exciting and extremely important project for us.
The Haus Cumberland will give Berlin a whole fresh momen-
tum. That‘s what I find so wonderful about Berlin - it continually
finds itself anew.
What, in your opinion, is the difference between Berlin and
other European cities?
If you want to set something in motion in London or Paris, you
have to belong to the right clubs and societies. In Berlin, you
just don‘t have bogged-down structures like that. About a third
of the population has changed since the wall came down and
that‘s why Berlin is above all trademarked by a generous trans-
parency. If you have ideas here, and you go to someone and
speak frankly about them, you‘ll be met with frankness.
Inmitten einer Karriere im Investmentbanking haben Sie sich für eine Tätigkeit als
Immobilienentwickler entschieden, verraten Sie uns, warum?
Ich hatte damals schon viele Jahre mit Aktien gearbeitet und habe irgendwann ein-
fach gemerkt, dass es nicht das ist, was mich erfüllt. Andererseits hatte ich aber in
jener Zeit die Möglichkeit, viel über die asiatischen Kapitalmärkte zu lernen, deren
Anteile an Immobilienaktien sehr groß ist. Deshalb, und auch aus persönlichem In-
teresse, lag dieser Bereich sehr nahe. Darüber hinaus ist die Immobilie einfach etwas
Konkretes – man kann es anfassen. Es bleibt. Und man kann durch Immobilien das Le-
ben von anderen Menschen aktiv mitgestalten und wird so Teil einer sozialen Struk-
tur. Was einerseits schön ist, aber auch eine hohe Verantwortung impliziert.
Wie tragen Sie dieser Verantwortung rechnung?

shape the representative style of this property.
