Very suspicious. After a business dinner my host wanted
to take me off to experience Berlin night life. But other
than expected, we didn‘t head for a cocktail bar or disco-
theque but arrived at the door of a completely innocent-
looking house. We rang the bell and the door opened and
after going down a few steps in a normal hallway, we found
ourselves in the Münzsalon, an old flat converted into a
beautiful club. Lots of different sorts of people, electronic
sounds, a lively, but not exuberant atmosphere and a pleas-
ant background noise of conversations greeted us.
After we‘d put our things in the cloakroom, we soon found
a pleasant spot where we could see all that was going on and whiled away some
time there. It isn‘t crowded. But unlike in bars nothing strikes me as unpleasant
here. The furnishings are modern and complement the classical style of stucco and
double doors. The lighting is pleasant and the service courteous. After the first few
swigs I at last have time to look at the other guests more closely. They look like
the adverts. Musicians perhaps, or in the media, television. Creative people. Berlin
bohemians but nice.
Sehr verdächtig. Nach dem Geschäftsessen möchte mich mein Gastgeber in das
Berliner Nachtleben entführen. Aber anders als erwartet, steuern wir keine Cock-
tailbar oder Diskothek an, sondern landen an der Tür eines völlig unverdächtigen
Wohnhauses. Nach dem Klingeln öffnet sich die Tür, und ein paar Stufen in einem
gewöhnlichen Hausflur später befinden wir uns im Münzsalon einer zu einem schö-
nen Club verwandelten Altbauwohnung. Gemischtes Publikum, elektronische Klän-
ge, ausgelassene, aber nicht überschwängliche Stimmung und ein angenehmes
Grundrauschen an Gesprächen empfangen uns.

Nachdem wir unsere Garderobe abgelegt haben, findet sich schnell ein gemütliches
Plätzchen mit guter Übersicht zum Verweilen. Es ist nicht voll. Aber anders als in
Bars fällt das hier nicht negativ auf. Die Einrichtung ist modern und ergänzt den klas-

Very soon a couple of nice Berliners join us at our table. We‘re very quickly talking
about all sorts of things. Because unlike in bars, pubs or discotheques, there are the
best conditions here for conversation because of everybody is a member. Therefore,

Bald schon gesellen sich ein paar nette Berliner an unseren
Tisch. Schnell entwickeln sich Themen kreuz und quer.
Denn anders als in Bars, Kneipen oder Diskotheken sind
