n 1991, Sheikh Mohamed created the Dubai Port
Authority, by merging the Jebel Ali Free Zone and
Port (JAFZA) with the Rashid Port. JAFZA is one of the
most important free zones in the UAE, both due to its size
and the number of companies established there,
around 6,400 companies of 120 nationalities.
A third of Dubai's commercial activity and 50% of its exports
are carried out there. In addition to JAFZA, there
are 30 other free zones whose creation has been promoted
by the investment law of 2002, which allows foreigners
the possibility of holding 100% of the capital stock of
a company.
