preparingfor asuccessful <strong>2021</strong>year.<br />
Interest hasbeen high in engagingwith<br />
peersupporttraining in particular.<br />
During 2020, despitethe unusualyear,<br />
there was successful community<br />
consultation, led by theschool’s board of<br />
trustees.<br />
The year<strong>2021</strong> will see our schoolvision<br />
built fromthe inputofstudents, staff,parents<br />
andour widercommunity,and shapedinto<br />
our schooldirectionand developments.<br />
Training learner drivers<br />
L2D DrivingSchool traininginstructor Dave<br />
Campionhas more than50yearsof<br />
international drivingexperience.<br />
He has driven everythingfrom trucks, to<br />
tractors,farm machinery to motorbikes and,<br />
in his trustySuzukiSwift dual control car,is<br />
keentopass on his skills to learner drivers in<br />
the district.<br />
TheL2D DrivingSchool motto is teaching<br />
driving skills and road craft.<br />
Instruction is available to people at varying<br />
stages of their learning whetheritbe from<br />
beginner to advanced.<br />
Dave provides an initialassessmentand<br />
will designaprogramme to suit.<br />
Thelessons aregiveninthe Suzuki Swift<br />
which is amodern automatic vehicle.<br />
‘‘Learning to driveinthe past, we were<br />
taught the basics starting,stopping,turning<br />
andhow to usethe handbrake, so Istart with<br />
themand move on fromthere,’’hesays.<br />
Students also learndefensive driving<br />
techniques along with hazardperception,<br />
hazard awareness andbeingaware of<br />
potential risks.<br />

of what’s coming up, he says.<br />
Driving acar is easy, it’slearning theskills<br />
to seethe big picture and checking what<br />
other driversand roadusersare doing<br />
around you that’s the hard part, he says.<br />
