A2.1 kilometre section of Pudding Hill<br />
Road outside Methven will beonthe<br />
receivingend of rehabilitation workthis<br />
month, fixing problems with the road<br />
bitumen that had been failing inhot<br />
conditions.<br />
The Council has awarded the $430,000<br />
contract to Fulton Hogan who will<br />
complete the road works for 2.1km east<br />
from the Drayton Road intersection.<br />
Work is programmed to start mid-<br />
<strong>January</strong> and is expected to be completed<br />
in two months.<br />

Once finished, Fulton Hogan will move<br />
to Fairfield Road West outside Fairton to<br />
reconstruct almost half akilometreofthe<br />
road betweenState Highway One and the<br />
railway crossing.<br />
The $150,000 project will repair pavement<br />
failures as well as remove abuild up of<br />
excess bitumen on the road surface.<br />

Health warning reminder -LakeClearwateralgal bloom<br />
Residents are being reminded to avoid<br />
the water inLake Clearwater following<br />
ahealth warning being issued bythe<br />
Canterbury DHB’s Community and<br />
Public Healthunit last month.<br />
Potentially toxic blue-green algae<br />
(planktonic cyanobacteria) was found in<br />
thelake,whichissituatedinthe<strong>Ashburton</strong><br />
Lakes Basin area.<br />
The type of cyanobacteria currently<br />
present in high concentrations is<br />
Synechocystis.<br />
People shouldavoid the lakeand animals,<br />
particularly dogs, should not be allowed<br />
near the water until the health warning<br />
hasbeen lifted.<br />

produce toxins harmful to humans and<br />

No one should drink the water from the<br />
lake atany time. Boiling the water does<br />
not remove the toxin.<br />
Animals that show signs ofillness after<br />
coming into contact with the water or<br />
algal scums should be taken toavet<br />
