East Street upgrades kick off<br />

Major improvements to <strong>Ashburton</strong>'s<br />

town centre are now only 12months<br />

away from completion ascontractors<br />

begin the newyearonEast Street.<br />

The two-year streetscape revitalisation<br />

project has already transformedCass and<br />

Tancred Streets with wider footpaths, new<br />

street furniture, plantings, a new road<br />

surface and one-way access along some<br />

streets.<br />

The Tru-Line Civil contractors began<br />

working on East Street this week,<br />

installing new underground stormwater<br />

infrastructure atthe Kermode and East<br />

<strong>Ashburton</strong> bus<br />

stop moves to<br />

WalnutAvenue<br />

If you're planning to catch the bus in<br />

<strong>Ashburton</strong> or need to pick someone up<br />

from their trip, make sure you head to<br />

WalnutAvenue, not East Street.<br />

The <strong>Ashburton</strong> bus stop has temporarily<br />

moved next to the <strong>Ashburton</strong> Domain<br />

to allow for the major CBD streetscape<br />

upgrades to continue along East Street.<br />

The relocated bus stop can be found<br />

near the public toilets towards the<br />

north-eastern corner of the Domain. It<br />

was officially moved onWednesday 13<br />

<strong>January</strong>.<br />

Signs have been placed at the East Street<br />

bus shelter advising people that the bus<br />

stop has moved to Walnut Avenue, and<br />

bus companies are advertising the new<br />

location on their online booking sites.<br />

before switching to the Tancred, Burnett<br />

and HavelockStreetintersections.<br />

Residentsare being advisedthat the work<br />

will force East Street tobeone-way only<br />

(northbound traffic) while the work is<br />

happening, but detourswill be in place.<br />

New kerbs, gardens and footpaths will<br />

then begin construction as the contractors<br />

move back to the southern end of the<br />

streettowards the start of February.<br />

Bikeriders willhaveaneasier time using<br />

the recently reopened section of the<br />

Lake Hood River Trail, after work was<br />

completed last week toremove excess<br />

shingle on thetrack.<br />

The trail between Boundary Road and<br />

Grove Farm Road had been reinstated<br />

after the completion of the <strong>Ashburton</strong><br />

River Crossing &Pump Station project,but<br />

riderswereinitially unabletobikethrough<br />

the newly laid shingle veryeasily.<br />

Seipp Construction, working on behalf<br />

of the Council have gone back to fix the<br />

issue, leaving the track primed for walks<br />

and rides all the way from Lake Hood to<br />

the <strong>Ashburton</strong> bridge.<br />

Clean up at<br />

Pendarves<br />

Council is working totidy up some of<br />

its old unused pits, with the Pendarves<br />

pitonthe corner of Chertsey Kyle Road<br />

currentlybeingcleared.<br />

Many of the pits are untidy and<br />

overgrownwithillegaldumping taking<br />

placeonthese sites.<br />

Council is keen to clean up the sites<br />

while it considerspossible future uses.<br />
