SWITCHGEAR<br />

General description<br />

The Siemens SIMOVAC controller is<br />

an integrated system of contactors and<br />

components arranged for convenient<br />

access within a common enclosure<br />

consisting of one or more free-standing<br />

structural sections. SIMOVAC indoor<br />

sections are normally 36” (914 mm)<br />

wide, 30” (762 mm) deep and 95”<br />

(2,413 mm) tall, while SIMOVAC-AR<br />

indoor sections are normally 36” (914<br />

mm) wide, 40” (1,016 mm) deep and<br />

112” (2,845 mm) tall) as shown in the<br />

figures on the following page.<br />

are similar but are usually 48” (1,218<br />

mm) wide.<br />

Outdoor controllers are similar except<br />

width increases 6” (152 mm) per<br />

section, height increases to 107.3”<br />

(2,725 mm), and depth increases to<br />

37.4” (950 mm).<br />

The controllers can be arranged to meet<br />

specific customer needs and can be<br />

configured to accept up to two starters<br />

per vertical section as shown in drawing<br />

in right column<br />

The modular compartments of the<br />

section may contain starters, lowvoltage/control<br />

devices or space for<br />

future starters.<br />

In general, each starter unit is divided<br />

into medium-voltage and low-voltage/<br />

control compartments each with<br />

its own door, and has the following<br />

features:<br />

n The low-voltage/control compartment<br />

is isolated from the medium-voltage<br />

compartment of the section with<br />

grounded metal barriers and provides<br />

ample space for relays, terminal<br />

blocks and other control circuit<br />

elements.<br />

n The medium-voltage compartment<br />

contains the vacuum contactor,<br />

primary fuses, current and voltage<br />

transformers (optional), a control<br />

power transformer (if applicable),<br />

a no-load isolating switch, load<br />

connections, and has space for<br />

optional surge protection devices<br />

such as surge limiters. (Refer to the<br />

figure below).<br />
