• The project will develop 4 buying/storage centres and Sable Farming will invest in the expansion

of the processing facility

Empowerment to Women

In Malawi traditionally economic power has been in the hands of men, hence gender

inequality had become endemic. Therefore, creating equal economic opportunities for

women, as well as men, is key to capacity building of Malawi.

• Sable farming has a policy that enshrines equal opportunity in employment to both sexes

• To achieve this, a Baseline Assessment has been done. Educating the importance of Gender Equality

amongst our employees and within the community is in progress, in order to educate and empower

women

• Side by side nature of jobs common for both sexes have been identified and an effort in increasing the

women employees in Key roles is ongoing

• The company started from a ratio of below 1 female employee to 5 male employees. The company

during this Harvest season has achieved 1: 1.5 ratio

Sable Farming Co's Carbon administration -

2013

• A Carbon Footprint analysis was carried out in 2013, to determine the baseline emission of the Plantation group and what were

the major and minor contributing factors.

Estate

Crop

Emission in Kg. CO2,

per kg crop

Sequestration in Kg

CO2 per Kg Crop

CO2 Balance in Kg. per

kilogram for safety.

Ngapani Coffee 4.84 -2.81 2.03

Chipale Coffee. 4.56 -2.07 2.49

Mapanga Macs 6.29 -11.82 -5.53

Ngapani Macs 8.85 -23.67 -14.82

• Fertilizer and Pesticides were the major contributors. However, even in this situation Sable Farming’s plantation operations were GREEN

• Macadamia sequestered more CO2 into the ground offsetting the emissions from Coffee farming, 2,250 tonnes of CO2 sequestered

annually

• To reduce the impact caused by fertilizer the Company moved to large scale composting of agro waste

• The above figures do not include the planting of more areas with Macadamia, as well as our Eucalyptus and natural forests, and so we

expect to reduce our footprint further. We absorb 2,250 tonnes of CO2 more than we produce
