During an interview with ZookeeperSteve Burns, McGivern learned about the storyof star zoo residents, Kodiak bears Munsey andBoda. The two bears arrived in Marshfield in2015 and are very rare because they are twoof only three bears of their species in the lower48 states. Munsey and Boda are living large asthemselves. They have one of the largest exhibitsyou would ever see in a zoo, with over 48,000square feet of natural surroundings and a viewingarea. These big boys need every inch of spacethey have, topping the scales and weighing in atwell over 1,000 pounds each.The episode also shows off the amazingmonarch butterfly display, which educates thepublic on their life cycle from egg to caterpillarto cocoon, and beyond on the butterflies’ releaseand migration.
