Thisamazing metal sculpture park, located justnorth of Marshfield,is surrounded by amystical forestedarea, and even has anenchanting HobbitHouse. But whatmany people don’tknow is that someof the artist ClydeWynia’s creatureshave escaped and havehidden in DowntownMarshfield. To help you find these zanycreatures and discover some of Marshfield’shidden gems for dining and shopping, wehave created the Downtown Jurustic Trail.*This tour clocks in at just under 1.5miles. Most people walking at a leisurelypace will take about 30-45 minutes tocomplete it (but we encourage you tostop and enjoy the sculptures, shoppingopportunities, delicious dining options, andfun attractions along the way!)1. Kick off your adventure at homebase: the Marshfield Area Chamber ofCommerce and Industry (MACCI) & VisitMarshfield officebuilding. This isa great place tograb a copy of theofficial MarshfieldVisitor guide, if youdon’t already haveone (also availableat visitmarshfield.com/visitor-guide)and to enjoyample parkingand a variety ofgreat restaurantsnearby if you’d like fuel up before hittingthe Downtown Jurustic Trail. It’s here thatyou’ll meet Tillie, the first creature who,very slowly and steadily, made a new homeamongst the rusty reeds.2. Take the trail north on CentralAvenue, which Marshfield locals havedubbed “Main Street.” You’ll pass byStrohman Park, a beautifully landscapedfirefighter memorial. Nestled near the10 | 2021 Visitors Guidetowering structure of the Chestnut Centerfor the Arts are two more creatures, wholike to say “whooo,” “mew,” and play a tuneor two on a stringed instrument. Whileyou’re here, check out the Chestnut’sofferings, including calendar of events,pottery studio, art class schedule, or artexhibitions displayed in their gallery.3. Delightful detour: follow thetrail back to Central Avenue by way ofthe Wenzel Family Plaza. Dependingon the time of day at the plaza, you’relikely to see children running throughtheir water feature, morning peoplestretching on Yoga mats, a food truckfeeding folk during the afternoon lunchrush, or live concerts and other entertainingevents happening most weekends. Ifyou’re looking to satisfy your sweet toothbefore moving on, stop in at the 2 ½Cups Cupcakery and Bakeshop. At thespot marked #3 on your map you’ll find atowering, metal turtle.4. Continue along the paved walking/biking trail on East Veteran’s Parkway. Youwill pass by the Everett Roehl MarshfieldPublic Library and the Marshfield VeteransMemorial, showcasing paintings by localartists and a flag display, honoring heroesfrom the Marshfield area. Look up to seethe largest, fire-breathing,winged creature on thetour trail (this fantasticalfellow flew in to guardour fair city and hasn’tleft since!). Snap a selfiewith this scaly friend(#marshfieldmadenew),turn around, and headback to Central Avenue,where you’ll pass theRoyal Tokyo Restaurant,housed in a historic traindepot, and is a known asa popular dinner spot forTeppanyaki style groupmeals and the place to gofor family celebrations.5. Turn down CentralAvenue for more popular restaurants andshopping options, and make your waydown to your next destination, HardacrePark. Named after an influential mayorknown for her leadership, you’ll find rustycreatures that swam to Marshfield duringa great flood, probably thousands of yearsago. You can also pull up a bench and viewa painted timeline of Marshfield’s pastsand milestones in the surrounding murals.Next-door is a Marshfield staple, CrabbyDave’s, known to have one of the bestbrandy old fashions in town.6. Meander down a few moreshort blocks to Nutz Deep II, one ofMarshfield‘s most popular restaurants andwatering holes (with a wacky name, andseriously good burgers). The creatureshere are some of the newest that justescaped Jurustic Park. Be careful - theymay not be as used to close,human interaction as someof the other creatures onthe tour.7. Cross Central Avenueto find your final stop,the Blue Heron Brewpub,another great place to grablunch or dinner. You’ll lovethe modern, gastropubatmosphere in this former icecream factory building. Afterfinding all the creatures in theHeron, kick back and relax(maybe while enjoying a pint),and you’ll find yourself backat the start of your journey.Be a good anthropologistand report your findingson the downtown trail back to us, so thatcreator Clyde from Jurustic Park can helptrack down these rusty creatures and try toreturn them to his park!
