Mayor, Council and I attended an Orientation workshop in Haines Junction for newly elected officials. It was very well attended
ENERGY MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
VOT hosted an Energy Management Workshop which was very successful. Along with some of our staff, there were TTC
Management and Maintenance workers in attendance. The course was sponsored by Yukon Energy and Yukon Electric. It was
facilitated by an engineer from Prism Engineering from Vancouver that brought a lot of useful information on how we could
save or conserve energy in the workplace. I would like to thank Yukon Energy and Electric for sponsoring the event as well as
all the participants who attended.
Recreaon Report for November 2012
Winter is in full swing and whether you like to spend your winter months indoors or outdoors, there is a winter
activity for you.
Teslin Minor Hockey held their AGM this month, and registration for the 2012/2013 hockey season is now
underway. Teslin Minor Hockey is scheduled to use the ice four evenings a week, which will change public skate
times. Hockey will take a break over the Christmas holidays, so more public skates will be happening then. There is
funding for Teslin to host some hockey skills camps, and I am currently coordinating these. Teslin Minor Hockey will
also hold a New Years Eve party in the hall, this is a fundraiser for the players so please support this event, spread the
word and purchase a ticket.
The first groomed ski trail has been set. This trail runs off of the Sawmill Road, just past the Hermit Lake
trail, on the left. The trail runs down the fire break, if you ski all of it, it turns around by the highway and returns on
the same trail. Now that the lake is nearly frozen, there will be more cross country ski trails set along the shore, with
regular group skis scheduled throughout the winter.
Some changes were made to the Youth Leadership and Activities Program Equipment and Supplies Allowance.
This fund has allowed the Village of Teslin to purchase equipment for skating, hockey, tee ball, volley ball,
cross country skiing, tetherball, ping pong and community events. All the equipment has been ordered or received. I
should know within the first week of December whether the RPAY After School Action Grant was approved.
Two very interesting workshops were offered in Teslin this past month. One was a strength training and Yoga
Fit workshop, which despite conflicting with another course on the same weekend, had an excellent turnout. The
instructor spoke about motivation, making your own training plan, and gave a thorough orientation of the RecPlex
exercise gym. Participants have asked for the instructor to return in the New Year, and this has already been arranged.
A nutritionist also attended Teslin to speak about healthy eating, and give examples of good meals for breakfast, lunch
and dinner. This was organized on behalf of the “Just Do it Teslin” group, but was open to anyone who was interested.
The December Recreation Calendar and the Student Christmas Break Activity Schedule will be finalized and
published for the first week of December. Some highlights include a new Parents and Tots playtime at the RecPlex,
Christmas decoration making, another nutrition workshop, sliding party, ski trip to Sima, a Hay ride and holiday lighting
contest, and another movie matinee using the Village’s new high definition projector screen. December will be an
exciting and busy month in Teslin, so don’t miss out by letting the colder temperatures keep you at home!
Low Calorie Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe
Ingredients:
- 8 slices light bread (I used Weight Watchers bread)
- 1 1/2 cups fat-free chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 1/2 cup chopped celery
- ¼ cup granny smith apples (finely chopped with skin on)
- 1/3 cup fat-free liquid egg substute
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme
- 1 tbsp fresh sage
- 2 tbsp. light buer (I used Brummel & Brown)
- Kosher salt and pepper to taste
Direcons:
Start by drying out your bread. You can either do this by toasng in the oven, or by leaving the bread sit out at room temperature
overnight.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
In a medium pot, combine chicken broth, onions, celery, apples, buer, salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme and sage. Cook for about
15 minutes over medium heat. Mean while, break up your bread into small ½” pieces by chopping or just breaking apart with
your hands. Put bread into a large oven safe dish.
When broth mixture is ready, slowly pour onto bread, making sure to cover all the pieces. Next, mix in the egg substute and
make sure to cover all pieces. If bread cubes do not seem wet enough (they should be moist, but not saturated), add a tbsp or
two of warm water unl appropriate texture is reached. Season with more salt and pepper if desired.
Cover dish with foil and transfer to over. Cook for about 25 minutes. Then, take out stuffing, mix it around and fluff it a bit and
put back in the oven, uncovered for about another 15 minutes. Enjoy!
DEAR GABBY
How many times have you read advice columnists such as Dear Abby and didn't agree with their
reply?
Dear Gabby would like to provide some advise . Gabby has added a reply; Gabby communicates
from a different point of view, neither right nor wrong, merely different.
Dear Gabby,
I am so stressed, my family has dealt with so much over the past couple years and still
people like to cause undue stress on our family with accusations that are serious but are
so incredible false.
If you’re angry with someone else why drag an innocent family through the mud. I love
Teslin but I hate the rumors that people start so selfishly. I am pretty sure we know who
is responsible for this BS and want to approach them. Is this a good idea?
These accusations aren’t minor and we never want anyone to hear of them but it angers
us terribly.
Thanks concerned Teslin resident,
Well well this is a problem that happens all over the world not just in Teslin.
I have spent many hours giving this thought, and even though my first thought is to say
march right up to the door and say “Hey you. You best shut up before I punch your lights
out.”
Of course that puts us right back into the school yard. And I am guessing we are adults
in this situation.
Rumors are made by little people trying to look like important people.
I personally say a RUMOR is like a fire and it needs the attention (oxygen) to burn bright
and hot. So it has been my belief that if you ignore a RUMOR it will not take on a life so
to say.
As I have mentioned many times too mainly whoever will listen
“DO NOT GET STRESSED OVER A RUMOR”
And truth of the matter is only YOU can control that. So I say do not give the RUMOR life

In short words pull up your big girl panties and laugh with your family over these stupid people
who have the need to make up stories to feel (shrugs) important.
Your true friends will stand by you and laugh with you.
To your question is this a good idea, Honestly if you read above then you already know the answer
is NO NO NO RUMORS live because we give them attention.
With that being said Ms. Gabby says I would be so nice to the mmmmm people we think have
started the RUMOR that it would make their teeth hurt.
Chin up Concerned Teslin Resident (most people know RUMORS are just that it is only when we
give them importance that they become alive)
Ms. Gabby
Dear Gabby,
I've been spending much too much time on the computer lately and it's creating a problem...okay,
MANY problems.
Although I love the Social network scene such as my favorite, Facebook, time spent writing on my
own blog, emailing my buddies, Facebook creeping, checking out new sites & commenting has me
on the computer instead of taking care of business in my real world!
I have been avoiding housework, hardly cooking, not spending enough time with my wonderful
hubby, teenage children and hardly even venturing outside to be with other people that I love.
Would you call this an addiction?
I need your help.
Sincerely,
Glued to the screen
Well well Glued to the Screen
(Shakes my head before banging it on the key board).
Honestly you are asking if you maybe have an addicon.
Hello you are not cooking cleaning spending me with the wonderful husband or the kids. Not to menon
people outside of the inner family circle.
No you do not need my help you need me to kick your bu with my big boot.
In the real world people would say that yes there may be a problem come to this meeng and we will hold
your hand to help you through it
Not so in Teslin we say think about it, if it looks like a dog, barks like a dog ,walks like a dog, chances are it’s a
dog. So with saying that you sit on your rump let your house fall to a mess, your husband has no idea what
you look like any more and your kids are running around on the streets doing lord knows what while you are
playing hmm what is it Farmville then yes you have an addicon.
So Ms Gabby says get up off your behind, grab a broom and sweep the house cook dinner for the hubby and
talk to the kids. In short UNPLUG that damn machine.
NO QUESTION ABOUT IT YOU HAVE A COMPUTER ADDICTION .
So step away from the computer and learn to talk to people who you see breathing.
Good Luck with this.
Ms. Gabby
