COVID-19’s

Impact on Theatre

It has been a very difficult and challenging year for

the Princes Theatre team due to the impact of

Covid-19.

We have been working extremely hard trying to

rearrange all events/shows and weddings that

have been affected by the ongoing pandemic and

would like to take this opportunity to thank our

customers for your patience during these

unprecedented times.

All shows that could not go ahead in 2020 have

either been cancelled or rescheduled to

2021/2022.

All our customers should have received notification

of a show cancellation or change of date and our

box office team have been working hard to make

contact with everyone.

If you have not been contacted and have tickets for

a show that did not take place then please contact

our Box Office on 01255 686633 (Option 1) or email

Toilet Refurbishment

We are excited to announce that

whilst our venue has been closed

both the ladies and gents toilets

have been refurbished and the

cubicles to the ladies toilets have

been increased from 4 to 9 plus a

disabled access toilet.

This is going to make a huge

difference and will certainly help

ease queues during intervals and

busy shows.

2021 - Celebrations

2021 Is going to be a special celebratory year as on the 14th April the Princes

Theatre will be celebrating 90 years.

The theatre was officially opened at 12.30pm on 14th April 1931 by Princes

Arthur of Connaught. It was opened as a 1,250 seat theatre and public hall and

at the time it was managed & owned by Clacton Urban District Council, which

then changed to Tendring District Council in 1974.

There have been a number of changes that have taken place over the 90

years. The Dress Circle was originally a balcony and the tiered seating was

added approximately 20 years ago.

In 2015 our venue became a licenced wedding venue with our first ceremony

taking place in December. Since then we have hosted 50 weddings.

Then...

90th Birthday Celebrations

To celebrate such a momentous occasion we are planning on holding a

celebratory event in 2021 so please keep a look out for further

information. In the meantime we are going to go through our archives

and put together a memory display board in celebration of our 90th

birthday.

We would like to involve our customers and invite you to share any

photos/memories you have whilst visiting our venue for us to

display. Please email them to princestheatreclacton@tendringdc.gov.uk

or send to Princes Theatre Manager, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-

Sea, Essex, CO15 1SE.
