theory may have been tested
on people who were physically
different to the diver wearing the
computer at the time.
Though probably none of us like
to admit it, the average diver
is not as young as we all once
were and this diver’s plan to dive
more conservatively sounds like
a prudent approach for avoiding
another uncomfortable and inconvenient
skin bend.
Join DAN’s COVID-19 study
DAN is looking for divers and freedivers who have recovered
from a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection, for a
long-term study on the effects of COVID-19 on diver’s health
and fitness to dive.
If you have been infected with COVID-19, are recovering or
have fully recovered, and are planning to return to diving or
have already returned, please consider signing up for our study.
In 15-20 minutes you can easily complete the initial survey
then over the next five years you will be contacted periodically
by DAN to follow-up on your diving career and any possible
medical issues: https://www.research.net/r/DANcovidstudy
THANKS!
Diving after Covid-19: What we know
COVID-19 symptoms range
from mild to severe. Some
people have no symptoms at
all while others require complicated
stays in ICUs with ventilatory
support to recover. In
addition to the impact of the
primary viral infection, factors
such as underlying medical
conditions, age, secondary
complications and more will
affect recovery.
COVID-19 shares many features
with other serious viral
pneumonias and requires a
period of convalescence before
YOUR LEADER IN
GLOBAL DIVE SAFETY.
returning to normal activities.
The amount of time needed to
recover will vary, as will the
long-term effects of COVID-19
such as pulmonary function.
As information becomes available
it will be incorporated into
COVID-19 prevention, treatment
and follow-up guidelines.
Determination of your fitness
to return to diving after a
COVID-19 infection will require
assessment by your doctor
confirming your full recovery
and ability to safely perform
unrestricted vigorous activity.
If your doctor needs to consult
with a dive medicine specialist,
DAN doctors are here to help.
We also have a database of
dive medicine doctors and can
provide referral information.
How do you make sure
your mask stays clear on
dives?
If you’re used to spitting in
your mask to help keep it
defogged, it may be time to
opt for commercial defog or a
creative alternative. In light
of the recent pandemic, we’re
encouraging all divers getting
back to it to do what they can to
prevent the spread of viruses.
Tiny changes like opting for
defog and avoiding communal
rinse buckets can make a huge
difference.
