Avakkhipati & okkhipati [ava + khipati; cp. Sk. ava- k+ipati] to throw down or out, cast down, drop; fig.<br />

usually appld to the eyes = to cast down, hence transferred to the other senses and used in meaning of "to<br />

keep under, to restrain, to have control over" (cp. also avakkh!yati), aor. ˚khipi DA i.268 (bhusa', v. l.<br />

avakkhasi).<br />
